Myth/Fact: Clarifying Common Article 3

MYTH: The Administration Is Proposing To "Reinterpret" The Definition Of Common Article 3 Or To "Redefine" Common Article 3.

FACT: The Administration Is Proposing To CLARIFY Common Article 3 – Not Reinterpret Or Redefine It

Senate clarfies it for him:

Senate Committee Defies Bush On Prisoner Interrogation

President Bush's campaign for tougher legislation on terrorists suffered another blow today when Senate Republicans supported efforts to block his plan to reinterpret Geneva Convention restrictions on the interrogation of prisoners.

By a 15-9 vote, Sen. John Warner (R-Virginia), chairman of the Armed Services Committee, and three other Republicans joined Democrats in opposing the change.

1. Right. How's a guy to know what's torture and what isn't?
Edited on Thu Sep-14-06 10:09 PM by joemurphy
For instance, to me, waterboarding and fingernail-pulling, and rubber-hosing, and electric shock administered to the genitals is torture. But to Bush, its "alternative interrogation". How's a guy to know what's the right thing to do with all this vague language in Common Article 3?

I applaud the Bush administration once again for trying to clarify this very murky area.
