I first met mike_c in my Mutant Flowers! thread in the Lounge in July '05. Since then, he helped me in a wasp nest dispute with my

and having met him in person, and as a good friend of his, I can tell you that he deserves all of the praise he gets here and more!

The McCarthyites over at certain other sites are now threatening to mount a wider campaign against Mike, even going so far as to contact CA university regents, congressional reps and state legislators. Since professors are under attack by neanderthal McCarthyite state legislators in many other states, that last part has me a little concerned, even though Mike is tenured and likely has nothing to worry about. But leave it to said neanderthal McCarthyites to raise a stink anyway and to try to make changes to tenure policies, again meddling where they don't fucking belong and in areas of which they know NOTHING.

Apparently, the fact that Mike had the nerve to turn the tables on Mr. Bluster really stirred up the hornets in their nests. It appears that they can dish it out with glee, but they can't take it, and are exposed for the bullying, blustering, hypocritical cowardly blowhard tinhat cowboys they really are. So, let's help Mike out by organizing a "counter-campaign" if they follow through with their threats to take it beyond the university. I'm sure we can produce far more in favor of Mike and academic freedom, and against the meddling of neanderthal McCarthyites who want to take us back fifty years. Whaddaya say?

if the neanderthals start going up the chain of command and bothering not just his department chairman but the dean, the univ. prez, and then the regents, congressional reps and state legislators. When they do, then we can start writing ourselves to these same people.

I don't see much point in it now until the neanderthals themselves escalate the situation; Mike's direct boss is simply deleting emails from them unread, so, until they go further, there's no point to joining in. When they go further, however, that's when we need to pounce on it like a pit bull on a poodle. It still absolutely cracks me up that they really think Mike's boss gives a shit and that he's actually reading any of their stupid emails before deleting them.

24. What I'm worried about is that they're building a case to go higher

to UC Regents. To create a major stink so that David Horowitz can come in with his draconian "Academic Freedom" pledge and try to force Horowitz's prefab list of demands on the CA assembly. With Ahnold in the governor's seat, it's a possibility.

Horowitz has to be stopped.

And said person is claiming that he didn't ask for or want Mike to be fired, or for any disciplinary action. Bullshit. What, then, exactly, did he expect to have happen? And why is he obsessing over an internet post that's over a year old of SOMEONE HE DOESN'T EVEN FUCKING KNOW? And what REALLY cracks me up is the shit fit they're having because Mike's boss isn't shooting Mike dead in the corridor the way they want. He's actually laughing about it, annoyed at being bothered by such petty stupidity, and is deleting their stupid emails without even reading them. THAT'S what's got their panties all in a wad and that is why they're trying to gather their "army" to go higher up and even get Horowitz involved (it has been mentioned).

They just can't stand it that Mike's boss recognizes them for the petty little no-life nothings they are and thinks it's stupid that they're so wound up over the internet postings of someone they don't even know, enough to take the time to dig up information on the person's employer and contact them, when it has nothing to do with his employment.

They want a goddamned fight, they've got one. Bring it on, motherfuckers. We're not going to roll over in terror and be doormats at the mention of Horowitz's name. NO MORE!

is that in threads here and at LU where he defends himself (and especially the one-on-one with TXIdiotGuy), the mightie righties complain that it takes too long to read the thread and that they can't understand what Mike's saying. Of course not! He's engaging in actual debate, instead of calling insults and name-calling a "debate." That and the fact that most of the words are beyond their ability to grasp!
