Two Gitmo Prisoners Released To Kuwait- Never Been Charged With Anything
2 Gitmo Detainees Sent Back To Kuwait

September 14, 2006

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico -- U.S. authorities Thursday released two Guantanamo Bay detainees and sent them back to their native Kuwait, where supporters planned to welcome them at the airport.

The military said an administrative review board had recommended the two men for transfer from the prison in southeastern Cuba, where the U.S. now holds about 455 men on suspicion of links to al-Qaida or the Taliban.

The U.S. military did not release the names of the men who were released, but the Kuwaiti Family Committee, an advocacy group for men held at the prison, identified them as Omar Rajab Amin, 31, and Abdullah Kamel al-Kundari, 32.

A spokeswoman for the group, Christine Lycke, said their families and relatives of other Guantanamo detainees planned to greet the men at the airport in Kuwait.
