Will we even need to get a majority?
Of course, I'm hoping for a majority in both houses, but if we end up 1 seat short in the Senate or something, will that really be the end of the United States?

I don't think so, even Bush's own party is starting to turn against him. I think we need to plan to have a majority, but also find ways to turn the GOP against Bush as well.

1. We don't need control of both houses but it would be nice...
Whichever house we gain control needs to be with a measure of lock and step when critical votes are taken.

2. THEY DO NOT COMPROMISE
Whether they have control by 1 vote or 6, they exercise control.

The Dems will not be able to get a thing done, nor will they be able to have subpoena power, chairmanship powers, etc.

It will be more of the same if the repubs maintain control, which I fully expect they will find a way to do. That's all they care about, control of their little monopoly on this country.

4. We need the majority
With the majority comes control of the House and Senate committees. Plus the Speaker of the House and the Senate Majority Leader have a lot of control over what legislations gets voted on. Also, with the majority, you get supoena power for investigations.

5. Yes for two reasons:
1. Supoena power
2. If we don't win control it will be taken as a confirmation of the WH plans and even the repukes who are speaking out now will be silent.

7. Without a majority, Repukes will continue perpetual war, tax cuts,

and destruction of the environment for corporate profit: moreover, almost every extremist nominated to the bench or high Federal office will be confirmed, just as in the past six years 'cause Repukes don't change their colors and will always privatize at a cost of several multiples of what government could provide the service, and always favor corporate welfare and welfare for the wealthy over the general welfare.

6. Yes
1. Unless we get a majority, W can't be impeached and the country may not survive until the end of his term.
2. If the R's have 1 more vote, they will excercise it, they will demand obediance from their own party, they'll probably get it and if teh Dems try to filibuster anything, no matter how minor, the R's will invoke the "nuclear option" (which they wanted to before until the plan was scuppered by some R's who weren't in on it and compromised).
