In 1856, during the Bloody Kansas crisis when "border ruffians" approached Lawrence, Kansas, Sumner denounced the Kansas-Nebraska Act in the "Crime against Kansas" speech on May 19 and May 20, two days before the sack of Lawrence. Sumner attacked the authors of the act, Stephen A. Douglas of Illinois and Andrew Butler of South Carolina, comparing Douglas to Don Quixote and Sancho Panza.

Sumner said Douglas (who was present in the chamber) was a "noise-some, squat, and nameless animal...not a proper model for an American senator." Most serious was his extreme insult of Butler as a pimp who took "a mistress who, though ugly to others, is always lovely to him; though polluted in the sight of the world, is chaste in his sight—I mean, the harlot, Slavery."

Two days later, on the afternoon of May 22, Preston Brooks, a congressman from South Carolina and Butler's cousin, confronted Sumner as he sat writing at his desk in the almost empty Senate chamber. Preston said "Mr. Sumner, I have read your speech twice over carefully. It is a libel on South Carolina, and Mr. Butler, who is a relative of mine—" As Sumner began to stand up, Brooks began beating Sumner on the head with a thick gutta-percha cane with a gold head. Sumner was trapped under the heavy desk (which was bolted to the floor), but Brooks continued to bash Sumner until he ripped the desk from the floor. By this time, Sumner was blinded by his own blood, and he staggered up the aisle and collapsed, lapsing into unconsciousness. Brooks continued to beat Sumner until he broke his cane, then quietly left the chamber.

Well, I would say all you'd have to do is LOOK at him...and if that isn't enough, all you'd have to do is LISTEN to him....there aren't that many blind, deaf and incommunicado women (or men, for that matter) out there on the dating scene, I should imagine....which leaves his potential partners rather few in number...

3. Savage is a sick fuck trying to gin up some controversy . . .
So people will listen to him. Having run out of red meat, he's now tossing out Gaines Burgers. Not having the sparkling intellect and charm of, say, Rush Limbaugh, he has to try harder.

7. My letter:
To Whom it May Concern,

This week, the host of this talk show made some hateful comments about women which were not only inflammatory (after all, those types of comments seems to be his stock and trade), but factually wrong. Women have been serving in the Senate since the early 20's. What's most amusing is that it was before that time that a man named Preston Brooks nearly beat a man to death in the Senate Chamber. And has he really forgotten who uttered the "F" word in venomous spite while on the Senate floor?

Please note also that these women were not "injected", they were elected. The same way the female Republican Senators were (which he conveniently does not mention). Does Mr. Weiner have a problem with democracy, perhaps? Should we have an all-male Congress? I know of a few countries where women are not allowed to serve in elected office, is his goal to make the USA more like them?
