Conservatives say religion under attack
WASHINGTON - Religious conservative leaders, sensing declining alarm over same-sex marriage, are warning that the debate over homosexuality has prompted attacks on religious freedom.

By expanding the discussion from marriage to religious expression, social conservatives say they will reconnect with religious voters and religious leaders who don't necessarily view same-sex unions as a threat.

"There are a number of pastors that said, 'Look, we don't get involved in politics, I'm not going to get involved in this issue, I just want to preach the gospel,'" said Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council. "When they realize their ability to preach the gospel may very well be at stake, they may reconsider their involvement."

...but they sure can't take it.

If anyone is to blame for the so-called attack on religion, it's Perkins and those like him. They've brought this entirely on themselves and deserve every bit of it.

18. Awww, pity. It's lonely at the top, isn't it?
I guess being the most powerful group here in America has its disadvantages, doesn't it? I'm sure they will alert us that they are under attack next time they get a hangnail too.

They sound like spoiled rotten brats so accustomed to getting their way that even the slightest inconvenience makes them feel as if they are under attack. Paris Hilton looks like a rugged self reliant working class girl compared to that bunch.

in fear of every perceived threat possible in the world. They believe the sky is falling. Chicken Little Conservatives jump in fear that their own shadows will reach out and grab them.

Time to tax their political proselytizing. They are always saying that freedom isn't free. Well they want to engage in all that politicking, time to pony up for the common good.

You beat up enough gay people and you eventually will be beating your own kid, neighbors and congregants.

The exclusionary socially radical right fundies need to realize that their FUNDAMENTAL religious positions are fundamentally WRONG.

27. They think their religion is under attack because....
Edited on Thu Sep-14-06 03:20 PM by OregonDem
...they want taxes (including those from non-christians) to be used to promote Christianity and some people oppose that.

...they want to enforce their religious views by law and some people oppose that.

...science disagrees with their version of creationism.

...they want public schools to be turned into public churches and some people oppose that.

...they want to tell people who they can marry and some people oppose that.

...they want to tear down the wall between church and state and some people oppose that.

30. God is so fragile. He needs our protection.
The liberals are going to kill our God again. God is fragile. God needs our protection. The liberals will kill us, too. Certainly God cannot protect us. What could God do? Nothing.

Can't the ol' Lord God fend for himself? Are lightning bolts no match for liberal commentary?

Edited on Thu Sep-14-06 03:30 PM by ComerPerro
and the fact that they now frame any limits on them forcing religion into laws as "oppression" or "attacks on religious freedom" is just absolutely disgusting.

Just because you are religiously opposed to gay marriage doesn't mean that any effort to make gay marriage legal is an attack on your religion.

Its only a matter of time before the KKK argues that recognition of non-Christians, minorities, and even Catholics is an attack on their sacred Christian religious rights.

If religious nuts can utter hate speech as a religious expression, then Rastas should be able to smoke their weed.
