Happy Birthday to me
These are the things I DO NOT wish for on my 40th birthday.

A sinkhole of a war that's killing thousands. Make that two sinkholes, with a third being considered.

Illegal rendition of terror suspects.

Torture.

An upside-down economy.

A President who sounds as though English is his second language.

A Republican controlled congress that makes utter truth out of the Mark Twain quote: "Imagine you're a crook. Now imagine you're a Congressman. Ah, but I repeat myself."

A lapdog media.

The enmity and suspicion of most of the world.

Screwball freepers inflicting their misinformed and misguided ideology on the rest of us.

A country where the Katrina victims are discarded and ignored.

A nation that relies on completely unreliable electronic devices to count our votes.

The smug superiority of people who DON'T HAVE A CLUE!

A country where people tolerate the hate speech of Ann(thrax) Coulter and her poisonous ilk.

Dominionists.

FOX News.

That we have viagra but kids still get cancer.

The Drug War.

This bass-ackward Class War, where they get all the ammunition and our leaders are afraid to fire back at all.

People going into debt and losing everything because they don't have affordable medical care.

So what do I wish for my birthday?

I'd settle for selling a million books.

Seriously... I just want a clear path out of this fucking swamp. Anyone got a map?

2. Happy Birthday to you....
I am sorry you are celebrating 40 in such a funk. I'll never forget the first time * stole the election, a friend of mine said, "How much damage can he do in four years?". Obviously, he is the biggest f-up, in the history of the world. Just try to put things in perspective today, and look for all the good things going on in the world. Okay, SORRY, that was really a stupid suggestion. How about the good things going on in you life? Anyway, Happy Birthday! Peace.

5. Happy Birthday to you!
40? I'll be turning that myself next August. Is it traumatic and all? :)

7. Trust me, 40 is not traumatic....
When you reach my age, 58, you begin to feel a bit traumatized. Fortunately, I had a career in education that I loved, and I have a wonderful (though not perfect)family. Although, I must admit my husband is darn near perfect. Just savor every moment of your life, and enjoy it to the fullest.

8. Happy birthday, indeed!
I'd settle for selling a million books, too! ;-)

Or rather, not "settle" -- since every wish on your list is critical! -- but use the leverage that'd give me to get more of the collective "healing work" done! (while there's still the barest shard of time to do it!)

Enjoy the cake!
