Bush's ratings connected to gas prices?

Forty-seven percent (47%) of American adults approve of the way that President Bush is performing his job. Fifty percent (50%) disapprove. Those are by far the best numbers for the President since mid-February.

The spike is fueled largely by a resurgence of support among the President’s base. Eighty-five percent (85%) of Republicans now offer their approval. At its low point earlier in the year, just 66% of the GOP faithful approved of his job performance.

It seems like gas prices are the best predictor of Bush's approval.

1. Rasmussen is always higher than other polls, but Bush is up

in another recent poll too, and yes, I do think gas/oil prices are a big reason why he went down because as people feel it in the pocketbook they get mad. Now they have been conditioned to think $2.59 gas is a bargain! just what the oil companies wanted and this is why they are lowering prices so much to try and help the GOP in November. (recent polls show Bush up: 42% in NBC, 39% Gallup, 42% ABC, 41% CNN, but this could be a combination of 9/11 anniversary and lower gas prices).

gasoline prices will continue to drop, all the while the havemore's real plan is to fool them with prices up 150 percent and growing, starting a few days after Nov. I'm sure these "poll results" are timed to coincide with the lower gas prices.

I seriously think from now til election day there won't be too many accurate poll results (other than internal ones). Even Zogby has hired a GOP operative.

Rasmussen always overweights Republicans, but all the other polls suggest Bush is doing better as far as public opinion than in the past.

Gas prices and 9/11 are the big two factors, in my mind. People aren't as pissed paying 2.40/gallon as opposed to 3.10/gallon.

gas prices are a factor in elections. The higher the prices the worse it is for the party in power.

yeah, the prices have dropped "here" - but the barrel price is also going up again, notably due to lower reserves and NERVOUSNESS OVER IRAN.

the only thing the bushies/gopers have to talk about is terra-terra-terra. The more they talk up terra-terra-terra and direct it at Iran the more nervouse the oil markets get - prices will go up and quickly. all that's needed is for smirk-boy to open his freaking pie-hole and make some stupid statement - no sweat, and zzzooommm prices go up again.

the other thing going on is preping for the summer to winter blends. they have to dump the summer stock to make room for the winter stock. think of it as a 'sale' - once enough of the "summer stock" has been sold off, the prices will go up as the winter stock is being produced.
