Did Bush go up in the polls because of his speeches or the ABC movie?
...about the Path to 9/11?

I heard it mentioned this morning that Bush had gone up 4% points in the polls and was now at 42% approval. I did not think his speeches were that great. In fact, I thought he may have lost ground with them? So how do we account for his 4% increase in the polls if not the ABC propaganda piece?

I'm sure Mr Bush reminded his fellow Repubs this morning that if he goes up 4% more in the polls, he is within the margin of error and that his approval ratings are higher than theirs so they should tie their fortunes to his coattails. Get out there team and spread the words: Terra! War! Fear! Terra! War! Fear! Terra! War! Fear! Terra! War! Fear! Terra! War! Fear! Terra! War! Fear! Terra! War! Fear!

7. He had a bump from 9/11
One that was less than the one he got in prior years. These bumps in the polls have not lasted and his numbers fall 7-10 days later.

up today, down tomorrow. Only thing that REALLY counts are the numbers generated in the voting booths, as long as the rethugs don't screw with the voting equipment.

This is within the margin of statistical confidence of such polls. It's apropos of nothing.

13. Fear and terror work for his base
And now they're all gloating about how the Path to 9/11 proves them right -
it was all Clinton's fault after all and the liberals will not keep us safe!
The poll results are depressing, except that it depends on how the questions
were phrased.

18. It's a combination of the two, propaganda from Disney/ABC
blaming the Clinton Administration for 9/11, with a timely speech combining the war against terror with Bush's War in Iraq, throw in some protection from the oil companies dropping gas prices just before midterm elections, and voila you get a bump.

P.S. If the bump is a pimple, the Mass Corporate Media will magnify it, until it's Mount Surabachi with the Marines raising the flag.

19. He definitely lost ground.
I posted this yesterday:

"Bush draws fewer viewers with latest speech" (4.7 M less than 2006 SOTU)

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=2827309&mesg_id=2827309

I know the freeps were flogging the 9/11 movie like it was the friggin 10 Commandments straight from Moses. They were so friggin' thrilled about a new Clinton hit piece...so maybe that's where the "baby bounce" came from.

21. I don't think this is consistent across the polls.
I doubt anything except gas prices have had much real effect.

If gas prices stay down 'til November, that helps the Repubs. Maybe not enough, but some.

Gassed up yesterday at $2.43/gal.

And, yes, the American public is that dumb and short-sighted.

26. Yes, it was down last week, but at least around these parts it was
still above $2.50. After I filled up I passed a couple other stations with $2.39 - that's down $.50 from two months ago.

For some people, that's all the encouragement they need.

25. It's the 9/11 sympathy vote...
I anticipate they will drop back down again very soon. Besides, 42% is barely above the margin of error.
