Dutchess County musician John Hall emerged triumphant in a crowded field of Democrats looking to take on U.S. Rep. Sue Kelly, R-Katonah.

Hall combined the moxie and money generated by his famous friends in the music business, passionate support from his liberal base and big union backing to trounce Katonah lawyer Judy Aydelott, the early favorite.

Hall won with an unofficial total of 48.8 percent of the Democratic votes cast for four candidates in the 19th Congressional District, which covers all of Putnam County and portions of Westchester, Rockland, Dutchess and Orange counties.

(snip)

Democrats on the national and state level now say they have the race in their sights as one that could figure among the 15 needed to win a majority in the House of Representatives on Nov. 7.
