Why Bother to Continue this SHAM of a Government?
It's very clear that Bush is king, he's completely in charge. Congress and the SC are completely irrelevant; the Constitution has been rendered obsolete.

The Republicans have lied and schemed their way into changing the course of American History (one of Rove's goals) by insuring one-party rule indefinitely. After reading the article on Princeton's voting machine research, I have no reason to believe Democrats will ever have the majority of anything again. And when people start marching in the streets after the election is stolen, the military will use microwave weapons on us to control us.

The future seems very dim from where I'm sitting.

1. How in the world have these guys survived
in office this long? How is it that Plame, DSM, Abu Ghraib, Iraq mismanagement, Chalabi lies, 700 million moved illegally, bribing congressmen, energy task force, white phosporous, body armor, bad approvals, high gas prices, record energy industry profits (where these clowns all come from), Halliburton, Abramoff (when was the last time we heard about him...and right before an election too?), using iran-contra figures in Iraq, environmental pillage, Schiavo, global warming, Katrina.... etc etc haven't brought them down?

Because they are nearly invulnerable at this point....

They cannot do any worse...they've performed as badly as possible and yet we have close elections and they are still in the WH funneling money to their pals for another day. And I agree that infrastructure is in place to keep them in office...maybe not the same guys exactly, but similar enough.

2. They've gotten away with it all because no one's stopped them.
Not Congress, not the SC, not the people - no one. I might just be in a pessimistic mood today with the loss of Ann Richards (who was a spectacular woman and leader) - thinking back to a time when things were different in this country. I really am worried that despite all the talk, nothing will change after November or ever.

3. And another question that is asked so often that it is now rhetorical
...why isn't the full WH record mentioned every single day by dc dems? Why can we only talk about the misdeed of the week, forgetting 6 years of outrage and blunders?

We need someone to come out and say that this is the biggest bunch of crooks and liars we've ever seen.

6. Specialization
Institutions are also more important than people.

11. I blame the Congress that was in place in 2001. They
did nothing about clipping this asshole's wings before he flew out where they couldn't catch him. Instead they caved in over and over on his unreasonable demands. Once the neo-cons took over all three branches of government there is no stopping Mr. Bush and those who will come after him unless Congress, both Democrats and Republicans, puts a stop to it or else the military does.

12. It all happened after 9/11.
It was as if everyone was paralyzed by fear and just did whatever Bushco wanted - Congress sat down and folded it's hands. My God - it has happened right before our eyes and now I'm wondering if it can be stopped.

15. They survived because most people have no idea what you are saying
Most people don't know most if not all of the scandals and crimes that you listed because the media is not telling them. Without a vigilant and independent news media, with equal time rules etc., these criminals can be out in the open because they know no one will call attention to it.

biased, unregulated media + unverifiable elections = USA 2006 Fascism? Totalitarianism?

It's happened we are living it and until one or both of those things is fixed we will stay that way.

5. I hope your wrong--especially about us being a pack of popcorn--I can't
wait for Congress to go on vacation again, because Dems are getting kicked around big time.

them. If the top brass in the Pentagon told Mr. Bush to go to hell, he would have no power whatsoever. In the future I hope the title of Commander-in-chief is taken from the Executive Office and given to Congress instead.

10. Good point. We can only hope if it comes to that -
they tell him to go to hell and promptly arrest him and send him to the Hague.

9. They have succeeded in brainwashing 30% of Americans
Preying on people's fears has worked for one-third of our population, and this is what is especially
scary.

The mainstream media will bear a large portion of the blame if our democracy fails.

13. ...

It seems dim from here, too. I wonder if the dems have what it takes to change course. Or will they simply slow down the train wreck. I will support them & give them a chance to do either, but sadly, I don't see a change of course in our future. We the People have morphed from citizens to consumers. What's at the mall is more important than what Cheney is doing.

14. This is why we're building a house in Panama. I just hope
the R's hold things together until 2008 so our son can graduate high school and we can sell our house.
