Everyone please do Ann Richards one last favor...
and listen to her 1988 DNC address.

Remember where you were the first time you heard it. I had just turned 18, excited to cast my first ballot. I was in the living room watching the convention with my mom (herself a small town mayor). We whooped, hollered and cheered for Ann. Mom said, "Now THAT'S a woman I can emulate! When those good 'ol boys down at the town hall give me a hard time, I can ask myself 'What would Ann Richards do?'"

6. She's always been very, very special to me.
My mother took so much strength from the Governor's example. It wasn't easy for mom being the first woman mayor in our little NC town's history. She took a lot of crap from some pretty nasty ol' boys. But she always kept the Gov. in her mind and in her heart.

I'm just heartbroken tonight. My thoughts go out to all Texans. Y'all lost a gem of a woman.
