Kerry to GOP: Condemn Boehner

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2006/09/12/national/w092653D64.DTL&type=politics

<snip>

House Majority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, shot back at Democrats Tuesday: "I wonder if they're more interested in protecting the terrorists than protecting the American people," he said at a news conference. "They certainly don't want to take the terrorists on and defeat them."

http://newsblogs.chicagotribune.com/news_theswamp/2006/09/kerry_to_gop_co.html#more

<snip>

KERRY: “Enough has been written about the comments made yesterday by House Majority Leader John Boehner.

I’m not interested in asking Mr. Boehner for a clarification or a retraction or even an apology. His statement was very clear, and equally despicable. His words are beyond redemption.

“They are, however, sadly, what we’ve come to expect in politics today.

What I am asking, today, is for the Senate to be the Senate. We talk here about ‘my friend’ from across the aisle. We talk about the traditions of the Senate. We talk about civility. But in the last years, I’ve seen things happen here that never would’ve happened in the Senate that I joined in 1985.

We’ve come a long way since the days when Bob Dole and George Mitchell refused to campaign against each other. I’ve seen colleagues say in the cloakroom that they thought it was wrong to see the courage of their friend Max Cleland attacked, but on the floor of the Senate – silence.

2. I wish Congressional Democrats would start going for the throat
and stop their sighing and boohooing about "politics today". It makes us look weak. DO something about it, and leave the wearing of sackcloth and ashes, and the weeping wailing and gnashing of teeth, to the Holy Rollers.

10. What precisely would you want them to do?
By the way, your descriptive comments are pretty confused. Wearing sackcloth and ashes would be done to atone for wrongs committed. The Senator, in his normal well dressed fashion, was not apologizing for anything - but calling on some of his peers across the aisle to demand an end of this nonsense.

22. Tell the world this:
"Despite the Republican party propaganda accusing everyone else of weakness on national security, defense and softness on terorism, the Republican party stands as the only party that actually DEMONSTRATED their weakness and failure on national security, national defense and softness on terrorism when the planes hit the towers and the pentagon and the field on Sept 11, 2001"

Does this qualify as really strong language accusing the Republicans of failure??

9. This was a statement of conviction
Senator Kerry has enormous respect for the institutions and history of this country - He really does value the Senate as a body where there should be a bipartisan effort to do what is right for the country. That that is not happening now is the point.

Also, I doubt you have displayed half the courage and conviction that the Senator has.

11. Good response by Kerry. Clear and concise.
As for Boehner, who the hell does he think he is? Is he actually calling half the citizens of this country terrorist sympathizers?

Stir the hatred pot, Boehner, stir it up a little more. Little weasel.

18. Does Kerry have a leadership position in the Senate?
Cause if he dosen't he shouldn't.Throughout the entire 109th congress John Kerry seems to be like a spokesperson for Senate Democrats and it's amazing why he isn't out minority leader instead of Harry Reid.

19. I think it's better this way
If Kerry were the minority leader, he would have to accomodate all the various factions within the party and that would limit his ability to speak out. Since he doesn't have to bridge any ideological gaps, he's more free to be himself, I think.

20. Boehner...god I loathe him
What a douchebag. At this point him and his ilk have their heads crammed so far up their asses that they could swallow their own farts. Good on Kerry for actually standing up to this filth rather than...well, remaining silent, which seems to be a particular talent of Dems lately...

21. It's about friggin' time.
I can't imagine how the Dems can keep taking this despicable & vile filth coming from the Republicans - day after day.

Keep repeating what he said until he is condemned for his violent words.

23. Kerry tells the truth and they just sat there, I bet. What's Boehner's
great backgroud. Kerry ought to just go over to his office and call on him, demand an apology, tell him to never do it again. That would be awesome. Loud mouths are the worst people.
