Who is actually going to watch a movie on thier iPod?
I can't possibly see watching a full movie on a tiny 1'x2' screen. Who's with me?

3. but for only $300
you can get an adaptor to watch on TV.

Me, I am doing just fine with DVDs. COuld not imagine spending $600 (ipod and adaptor) and then having to download with no savings for the lack of phsyical media at all and then I have to store it too because no burning to DVD.

If this is the solution then I think I will ignore the problem. ;-)

7. You're incorrect -

I just scored a $3 cable off ebay that'll allow me to connect it to my TV. these ipod a/v cables have been around since the video ipods.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=016&item=260028753306&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1

if you use the search term "ipod a/v cable" you can find more examples.

In any case, the $300 box is a stand alone, set top box that connects to your computer for media.

ANYWAY - i think i could see myself watching a movie on my ipod on a long flight or trip. we shall see.

9. Oh thank goodness
I had to wonder about that.

Of course, then the next question would be what resolution will the movies be at? I know the TV shows are kind of lo-res for a larger screen.

I still would get a portable DVD player and selections from my library before I would get a video ipod and then pay for all the content too.

Of course, so long as it is only Disney stuff, it is all a moot point anyway.

Edited to add: The TV shows are being upgraded to 640 x 480, too.

18. as another poster has said -
640x480 :)

IMO - this will be ideal for either viewing on the ipod screen, or connected to a normal TV (ie- not hd).

One thing you probably should know is i've got a little "problem" with dvd - i've got quite a massive colelction - so i understand your quality concerns. However, i see this video output form the ipod filling a bit of a niche for me -

imagine this if you will - i got on a trip, visit some friends or family and we end up discussing a movie i've viewed on my ipod. If they wished to check it out, we could hook my ipod up in short order and everyone can enjoy.

By *no* means would i view this as a dvd replacement - just a sort of quick fix

4. Not as bad as it seems on paper...
I've been watching video content on my 5G iPod for a while now and, while not ideal, it's not bad. The audio contributes quite a bit to make the experience immersive and the screen is very crisp. You get used to it very quickly and it's a pretty nice diversion at the gym or on a plane or train trip.

8. Certainly Not Me
After Steve Jobs, owner of 7% of Disney, chose to not stop ABC from showing the 9/11 Fakeumentary? I'll not be watching movies on my iPod, because I'll not buy an iPod - or anu other Apple or Disney product. Revisionist history is pretty bad stuff.

I'll be watching movies on my newly-purchased iRiver instead.

I remember these strange obsolete devices called magazines and books.

Damn I am old. :-)

15. You got it. I'm old, too. I bring two magazines and a book or two
Paperback, of course, for any long flight.

I rarely watch the movies on aircrafts, as they are edited for content. The only exception is if it is a movie I wasn't particularly interested in, anyhow, and I've run through all my material and there's no one interesting to chat with on the plane. :) Then, I'll watch nearly anything.

17. On six hour flights to California, I can't read all the time — so I'd love
to have something of my choice to watch. And when I was stranded in SF Airport a while back for over 10 hours, I'd have given anything to have something else to look at besides CNN on the terminal TV screens!

23. OY! I can't imagine that long of a flight. On one flight from NY to SF,
I sat next to a guy who'd just come from Moscow — 24 hours on a plane!

24. with connections
it can be that long to Sydney Australia and South Africa. It isn't so bad if you have something to watch ... a book can only last so long before the eyes really start hurting. It is good to have something to do for those of us who have a hard time sleeping on those flights.

I prefer to be comfortable in my living room and look at a decently-sized screen at an appropriate distance from my eyes.

Okay, you don't like the tiny screen.

Video iPods have video outputs. Watch the movie on your
widescreen TV.

21. I've done it occasionally...
On a 5g iPod - normally things that aren't shown on television. For instance, I've got Jimi Hendrix live at Woodstock. Makes those bus journeys go a bit quicker. The iPod is helped by the fact that the screen they used is absolutely phenomenal. It really feels a lot bigger than it is.

That said, it ain't a replacement for a proper TV.

25. I will as long as my battery holds up
I tend to default to audio only on long, long trips to maximize the battery, that and reading/viewing will still bring on my travel sickness.

I get more out of my podcasts than I will any major motion picture.
