WP, Milbank: "Treason Season" has arrived as Republicans revive old trick
A Reprise of the Grand Old Party Line
By Dana Milbank
Wednesday, September 13, 2006; Page A02

....15 minutes later, (House Majority Leader John Boehner) had moved from the necktie to the jugular: He speculated that Democrats may be guilty of the capital crime of aiding and comforting the enemy.

"I listen to my Democrat friends, and I wonder if they're more interested in protecting terrorists than in protecting the American people," he said....

***

The majority leader's charge of treachery was no accident. Two months before Election Day, Republicans have revived the technique used with great success in 2002 and 2004....The arrival of Treason Season, heralded by the charged address President Bush gave on Monday's 9/11 anniversary, is right on schedule....Vice President Cheney launched the current round of sedition suspicions. The idea "that we should withdraw U.S. forces from Iraq," he told NBC's Tim Russert on Sunday, "validates the strategy of the terrorists."...

***

The (Boehner) flap landed 90 minutes later on Tony Snow's podium in the makeshift White House briefing room. The spokesman declined multiple invitations from the press to disavow Boehner's formulation. "Do you want to let a statement like this stand from a Republican leader of Congress?" NBC's David Gregory finally asked.

"I'll get back to you on it," he said....

1. Only people protecting terrorists are those who blocked BCCI investigation
and 9-11 investigation.

Now, who could that be?

3. Question
Has anybody ever tracked down every piece of money laundering legislation and whether it all got passed? I seem to recall that somewhere along the line the Bushies were continuing to fight legislation because of the banking industry. Do you know if there's still outstanding legislation on this?

they do at that point after 9-11? BUT............

Bush also quietly pushed back a timetable Clinton had secured to get international banks to open their books for legitimate investigatory purposes (terror). Banks were supposed to be in compliance by June 2001. Bush decreed he needed to examine the issue and stalled for time. Post 9-11, he made the (quiet) decision that November to give banks till 2005 to comply.

That tells me they had ALOT to hide and cover up - and the corpmedia, AGAIN, let this act go with little scrutiny.

5. Republics might revive that old "trick" but the press helps them
execute it with precision. Right, Mr. Milbank?

7. When are Republicans ever going to learn the difference between a noun
and an adjective?

It's not "Democrat friends," it's "Democratic friends."

Stupid Republicans. That doesn't even SOUND correct.

9. Here's what that traitor Eisenhower had to say about dissenters and war:
May we never confuse honest dissent with disloyal subversion.
– Dwight D. Eisenhower

I hate war as only a soldier who has lived it can, only as one who has seen its brutality, its futility, its stupidity.
– Dwight D. Eisenhower

The traitors are the ones who revealed the Plame operation for attempted political gain.
