The WH gaggle must be watching Olbermann
After framing the first question about Boehner's remark that Democrats are "more interested in protecting the terrorists than protecting the American people" as Bush's failure to keep the dialogue above politics on Sept 11, Snow was peppered with *relevant* questions relating to Republicans' outrageous charges against Democrats.

Here are the questions (Snow's boilerplate spinning and repeated insistence that he hadn't yet seen Boehner's statment are at the WH link)
QUESTION: Do you think both sides, Democrats and Republicans, want to defeat the terrorists?
...
QUESTION: As you well know, this is not a campaign season about whether America is a great place or not, right? I mean, it's a lot more substantive than that and it has to do with the path that this president took the country after 9/11.

Now, when a Republican leader of Congress says, "I wonder if Democrats are more interested in protecting terrorists than they are in protecting the American people," as a spokesman for the president, do you think it's your duty to say that that's out of bounds or not?

...
QUESTION: This is important because, as a matter of fact, the vice president said over the weekend to Tim Russert that, "The sort of debate we're having in this country about withdrawing troops from Iraq emboldens the terrorists." Now you have a Republican leader of Congress saying the Democrats may be "more interested in protecting terrorists than the American people."

Does the president agree with that?
...
QUESTION: You certainly would get into, if someone accused the president of being a liar, do you want to let a statement like this stand from a Republican leader?.
...
QUESTION: (Boehner's statement's) been out there for a couple of hours. I think you had ample time to see it.

Let me ask you this final point. Can you describe how it's possible to oppose the president on the war on Iraq without emboldening the terrorists?
...
QUESTION: Do Democrats want to protect terrorists more than the American people? What do you think?
...
QUESTION: (OFF-MIKE) question. Forget about what John Boehner said. I'm putting the proposition to you. Do you have an opinion on that topic?
...
SNOW: Do I think -- no, I think...

QUESTION: Democrats are more interested in protecting terrorists than the American people?

SNOW: No.

There you have it- There's deep division in the Republican government: The White House supports Democrats over remarks made by the House Republican majority leader. ;)

3. I only have one question re
this Rethug line about Democrats calling Bush a liar. Aren't Bush, Cheney, Rummy, Colin and Condi proven liars? What is wrong with speaking the truth and stating that they are fugging LIARS.

6. Some or all of those questions
(can't tell from the transcript) were from David Gregory. I just ran into Milbank's write-up.

7. If this kind of hyperbolic...
...hyperventilating rhetoric goes unanswered, we should be asking the obvious question.

"Do Republicans care more about killing people and securing profits than they do about running and protecting the country they are sworn to serve, because it sure as hell seems like they are a bunch of lying murderers..."

It's not a question btw, it's just a bit of wild hyperbole thrown out there to help people make the connection.

Republicans = Death and Misery

10. Dickens was prophetic when he wrote, in 1836,
'The Election for Beadle.' In that he gave as an example, politicians using a similar trick: "...he would not say, that that gentleman was no gentleman; he would not assert, that that man was no man; he would not say, that he was a turbulent parishioner; he would not say, that he had grossly misbehaved himself, not only on this, but on all former occasions; he would not say, that he was one of those discontented and treasonable spirits, who carried confusion and disorder wherever they went; he would not say, that he harboured in his heart envy, and hatred, and malice, and all uncharitableness. No! He wished to have everything comfortable and pleasant, and therefore, he would say nothing about him (cheers)."

In this case, Snow and * are willing to let others sling shi* and have everyone else repeat and discuss it in outrage, and then, meekly and without notice, deny the outrage. Much as in the ongoing linking of 9-11 to Irag, they spew this crap, then say, after the cameras are off, "of course there is no link." Just like any bully, * would rather have is lackey's carry his water, fight his fights, speak for him, think for him.

18. Someone needs to go the next step and ask them WHY they think
Dems are protecting the 'terrorists'? Last time I checked, the anthrax killer didn't send letters to the repuke leaders, he/she/they/it sent them to Dems. Last time I checked, OBL helped Bush win the 2004 elections and the CIA agrees with me...so...

Why again do they think this way? So close to an election cycle, they need to be held accountable for at least ONE DAM thing!
