Angelides campaign staffer downloaded guv's comments
CHP investigating whether audio file was obtained illegally
Tom Chorneau and Lynda Gledhill, Chronicle Staff Writer

Tuesday, September 12, 2006

(09-12) 13:23 PDT Sacramento -- The manager of Democrat Phil Angelides' gubernatorial campaign acknowledged Tuesday that two staff members downloaded a controversial audio file containing private comments of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and leaked it to the media.

Cathy Calfo, Angeldies' campaign manager, said however, that the campaign did nothing improper and insisted that the file was left available on a public Web site.

"There was no hacking, no password, no expertise required," she told a news conference.

The California Highway Patrol has opened an investigation into whether the file was obtained illegally. Calfo said no one at the campaign had been contacted by the CHP.

Andrea Lynn Hoch, the governor's legal affairs secretary has said that an internal audit showed three unauthorized entries to password-protected Web sites in the governor's computer system -- two of which downloaded the audio file containing Schwarzenegger's comments in which he referred to a Puerto Rican legislator has having a "hot" temperament.

4. Honestly, it's not like Ahnuld is the paragon of virtue...
I view it as "pre-emptive". We all know Rove's cretians are working for the idiot. Looks like someone FINALLY beat the GOP at something.

7. Of course he isn't
But if you're gonna play dirty tricks, cover your freaking tracks.

Christ Gray Davis was a scumbag but he knew how to pull a trick. Even though he was incompetent and beatable anyway, Bill Jones was destroyed when he tried to make Davis's rumored pay for play gov't a center issue with a huge charge of imporper fundraising based on photo evidence. The evidence was provided by COPS which had previously been friendly with Davis. Needless to say the charges turned out to be incorrect, Davis got to act all insulted that his saintly record was smeared and Bill Jones polled in the 20's.

That my friends is how it is done.

5. They are NOT disputing the actual down-load.

6. How in the world is that defamation?
An Angelides staffer downloaded the comments and leaked them to the Times.

Those facts are not in dispute by either side.

What is in dispute is the legality of the download.
