When Bush said to Matt Lauer: "My job is to protect you".
All I could picture was a scene with the collapsed WTC in the background, the Katrina victims in the foreground and Bush in the middle with "My job is to protect you" written under his smirking ass.

So, how safe do you feel with Bush as your protector?

and 50% of the voters wouldn't recognize the irony.

not to "protect" us.

I feel completely unsafe with BushCo in power.

15. CORRECT! That is any presidents ONLY job, that's ONLY what they swears to.
Edited on Tue Sep-12-06 03:47 PM by LaPera
And the fascist Bush has failed miserably at it...Ignoring the Constitution and breaking federal laws!

For one; NSA illegal wiretapping that Bush has even admitted to, and the republican Congress does NOTHING, even though it's their job to hold the president, who's not above the law accountable!!!

5. Which takes us to the basic misunderstanding of Mr. Bush
His job is to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, everything else is secondary to that part of his oath of office.

9. That has bothered me a lot.
He makes it sound like it not just his job, but it is his job only. Only he can decide how to "protect us".

Who is going to protect us from him?

13. And why the hell is he always telling us what his job is?
I used to think it was because he had to remind himself what a President was supposed to do. Now I'm thinking that he is forcing some new definition on us.

27. Not to mention that we don't need him to tell us what his job is
It's there in the Constitution.

He just twists that around to personal protection so he can demand the "tools" he needs to do it, that is, eviscerate the Bill of Rights.

It is so insulting and condescending.

Smirky Chimp.

16. That is NOT his job ~ "to protect us"....
His job is to protect, defend, and uphold the Constitution of the United States of America! I wish that dumb boy/man shrub would stop saying that! And I wish Lauer of SOMEBODY would point that out to him.

I had the same thought as you when I heard him say it, even if his job WERE to protect us, which it's NOT....he didn't protect the US on 9/11/01 OR during the Katrina disaster (nor can a reasonable person expect him to if an 'event' happens in the future either!!!)

I think your idea would make a TERRIFIC ad campaign!!! It wouldn't be a smear campaign either, it would be just presenting the facts and stating the truth.

With a "protector" like **, who needs enemies? pResident "Protector in Chief" is enemy enough. We need protection from him.

28. Anyone remember the SNL w/ chimp under his desk?
I think it was originally shown in early 2001, before 9/11. It had chimp in the Oval Office and out the window behind him you could see DC going up in flames (the Capitol Building, etc..). Chimp then climbed/hid under his desk, whining.
It was definitely a sign of things to come. I wish they would re-broadcast it. They would have so many more **real** "outside the window" backgrounds to use now..9/11, Katrina, Iraq, Osama.
