What Olbermann did WAS amazing
But do we have to call him the best ANCHOR on television? Call him a commentor, or your favourite anchor. But an actual anchor's strengths are not judged on his political commentary, no matter how good.
I see DUers complain about the media getting political all the time. And now that one has come out and said something they agree with, though it is the truth, they're all proclaiming him as the next messiah.
Please, let's try to hold EVERYONE to the same standards.

Katie Couric is an "anchor".
Let's not smear that stink on Keith.

9. See and your view is one I more agree with
In North America our belief that the press should be nuetral allows for a mass duping of the public. Whereas in other parts of the world there's no false idealogy about the press. One paper is left one is right, read the one you like best.
How it should be.

11. It's worse than that
In America every newspaper feels the need to find "another opinion" and print it with the same validity- even if it's patently FALSE or absurd.

If Bush said the earth is flat, the American media would trot out some quacks to "prove" it's true.

6. Hum, I think it's a bit different
when someone in the media has the courage to speak the truth....if they all were fair and balanced (just visit mediamatters.org) - there wouldn't be the need to be such cheerleaders as we are. The left has been "marginalized" and finally, someone is speaking out.

7. In your opinion who *is* the best anchor?
Because, after all, we are just expressing our opinions on who we think is the best anchor, right?

He's well-informed, funny, articulate and interesting. And that's not even getting to the political commentary.

13. I believe the response to Keith is so strong in his favor becauce
EVERY other TV anchor either saysNOYHING or supports Shrub!

Remember where you are posting this! DEMOCRATIC UNDERGROUND!!!!!

There was a similar response the very few times Tweety actually gave a hard time to so Pub shill!

Shrub has generated some extremely strong negative feelings in Dems, and when someone with a national TV following demostrates the courage to stray from the standard, notonce but 2 days in a row, with the feelings many of us on DU have been saying for a long time, what other response would you expect?

27. Tweety does it ALL THE TIME! Have you never heard him say
extremely good things about Shrub. And I didn't mean only Shrubsupport either! Listen to Tweety or Wolfe almost any day. When there's a Pub on, Tweet yends the interview with "well, good luck to you, I really like you." Wolfe is a bit more subtle, but with him, you can tell by the way he questions his guests, and if he lets then talk and answer the questions, or stops them in mid sentence with an objection.

Dobbs is a pretty straight shooter and calls out anybody he has a problem with, no matter what party.

The only other talking head I can think of who has smacked around the Prez, the Congress, or almost ANY candidate, is Jack Cafferty, although Jack is only a show host on the weekends.

in which the "journalist" spews the right-wing talking points and allows the republicans (cause they never have on the other side) to get away with flat-out-lies with no follow-up. And that is: everytime there is an interview.

My earlier threads will bear out my stance on KO's commentary last night, but do we really need yet another thread when there's other just-as-important topics on this board?

How about giving this one some love, huh?

have an election to win in just 8 weeks.

I noticed that you took time to chastise me but I don't see your response to the link I provided for a thread that I feel is, at this moment, more worthy of DUers attention. After all, when people want a poll DUed, people don't say:

"We should DU this poll because YOU say so?"

Which is more important? Showing your hatred of me or supporting a new 9/11 investigation?

Here is the link again:

Rather than posting to a thread you dislike, you could start a thread complaining about all those threads you dislike?

Or--you could start a thread about one of those "more important" topics.

31. We have to restore free and fair news and commentary in this country
If Olberman is the only one willing to step forward and be the first to do it, so be it. We need to back him and encourage others to do so.

Pardon me, but I don't consider any talking head who reads copy about sensational murders, gossip and the latest WH spin to be a journalist, regardless of how well they're paid or who they work for.

Today, Olmberman is more of a journalist than anyone else in the business. Like it or not.

Time is running very, very short. If we lose this election there may never be another chance to save our democratic form of government, our economy, our freedom and our future.

Keith would be doing "special comments" about him/her as well... The administration has been and currently is screwing the country over big time, and it's nice to finally hear somebody on TV "news" that still seems to have some sort of link to reality.

46. It's a news show. He's the anchor. Simple as that.
Thw way in which he covers the top five stories of the day, plus Oddball, is a little different than the standard "network" format. But it's still a news show, and he reports the news as well as commenting on it. Countdown is not a pundit/talk show like Hardball, Scarborough, O'Reilly, etc. It is a news show, and it has an anchor named Keith Olbermann.

Walter Cronkite did the same thing. So did Edward R. Murrow.

Keith carries on the BEST tradition of what an anchor ought to be. Sometimes the truth compels him to make a "special comment." Good for him. He's un-covering, and TELLING, the truth.

Bake
