Stingrays mutilated after Irwin's death
Thats just so sad....who takes "revenge" on stingrays ...
Why do we treat other species this way?

SYDNEY, Australia - At least 10 stingrays have been slain since “Crocodile Hunter” Steve Irwin was killed by one of the fish, an official said Tuesday, prompting a spokesman for the late TV star’s animal charity to urge people not take revenge on the animals.

Slain stingrays since have been discovered on two beaches in Queensland state on Australia’s eastern coast. Two were discovered Tuesday with their tails lopped off, state fisheries department official Wayne Sumpton said.

1. Oh for God's sake, human beings can be the stupidest life forms
on the planet.

Every time I think I can't be surprised, people stoop to new lows.

2. Can be?
I daresay we are. I know of no other animal who pukes in the soup quite like we do.

Because people also 'can be' really wonderful.

13. Sigh. I know.
But when my nieces ask me where 'God' was on 9/11/01, I say that he was the firefighters, policemen, and others who tried to rescue those who were hurt.

6. That will show the stingray community! Seriously!
People should avoid mixing crack and snorkeling. The guy is dead, killing every stingray on the planet won't bring him back.

10. I wonder if that's really related to Irwin's death.
There's a scene in a James Bond short story by Ian Flemming where Bond kills a stingray in Australia just because he thinks the animal is dangerous. He talks about the tails being valuable to some people as souvenirs or as torture devices. The idea of killing stingrays and cutting off their tales goes way back. I wonder if people are seeking revenge on stingrays, or if this is just a normal practice that people are more aware of at the moment.

12. Steve would be crushed if he were alive and knew this was happening
wildlife.

I think the director of his wildlife conservation group said it best:

"...killing stingrays was not what Steve was about.

“We are disgusted and disappointed that people would take this sort of action to hurt wildlife."
