Pope warns flock against relying on science too much

MUNICH, Germany -- Under glorious skies in this Bavarian capital where he once lived, Pope Benedict XVI on Sunday warned Catholics against letting modern concerns drown out God's word, adding that technology alone cannot solve the world's problems.

Over-reliance on science has made too many Catholics deaf to the church's teachings, the pope said in a homily that scolded Western European societies for their increasingly secular focus. Faith is also needed to combat diseases such as AIDS, he said.

Catholics must make God "the force shaping our lives and actions," the pontiff said.

He lamented cynics who consider "mockery of the sacred to be an exercise of freedom."

"Put simply, we are no longer able to hear God--there are too many different frequencies filling our ears," the pope said. "What is said about God strikes us as pre-scientific, no longer suited to our age."

I have a feeling that he regrets that he can't burn scientists who contradict church doctrine at the stake.

Those old time popes had all the fun.

1. Well, if you keep undermining science with your crackpot
beliefs, of course you can't 'depend on science', you idiot.

Oh, and by the way, pope, why don't you turn in your popemobile, all your meds, and leave your palace and go back to living in a sod hut. All of those things were brought to you by SCIENCE.

3. Ha! He couldn't outdrama Disney's 'Bush in Wonderland!'
God is a force? What happen to the all-seeing-all-knowing God? The angry one? My flatulence is a force, I don't go around proclaiming it. Maybe I should.
