Ain't No Way That Speech Was What Americans Wanted To Hear. He Blew It.
Edited on Mon Sep-11-06 08:59 PM by OPERATIONMINDCRIME
We knew he was going to pander and politicize with his agenda. But it has occurred to me that he and his administration are stuck in 5 years ago mode.

I was fully expecting him to put on his strong face and appeal to the American people for support and togetherness. What I did not expect, and as a matter of fact found to be eye-rollingly-disgraceful, was how he used the entire speech of the fucking 5 year anniversary of 9-11 to yet again try and beg for support for his illegal war. I thought he'd make Iraq some part of it, but didn't think he would make it the entire subject.

He blew it folks. He had an opportunity to appeal to the 'middle', the righties and even some not so informed lefties tonight by taking advantage of the open emotions most have on such a traumatic day as 9-11 and the 5 year anniversary of it. He did not take advantage of heart strings at all. Instead, he almost completely ignored our hurt and emotions of this day, the deep distress we all feel, and the need for uplifting optimism the country wants. He mentioned some things in passing, but overall he completely ignored the absolutely HUMAN heartfelt aspect of the fucking 5 year anniversary of 9-11. He only cared about trying to yet again desperately plead with people to please support his illegal failure of a war in Iraq.

Rest assured, the overwhelming majority of Americans did not want to hear about Iraq or his policy there. Today, Americans want to grieve; They want to take pause; They want to reflect; They want to feel hope. It would've been so easy for Mr.* to instill these ideals into his speech. He didn't. He failed miserably. He talked about the last thing Americans wanted to hear, while ignoring the deep felt sentiment that we all feel.

Like Tom Brokaw said: "This is the kind of speech he could've given 3 years ago, not 5 years after 9-11".

Mr.* blew his opportunity to reach out completely tonight. Course, I never really had any expectation of him succeeding with anything anyway. Lord knows, why should he start now.

25. Believe Me, There Were Moments I Almost Put My Foot Through The TV.
I had to listen tonight, because I knew I wanted to very quickly guage his level of success towards attempting to manipulating the public against us in November. On that front, I think he failed miserably.

8. "How dare you, Mr. President,
...after taking cynical advantage of the unanimity and love, and transmuting it into fraudulent war and needless death… after monstrously transforming it into fear and suspicion and turning that fear into the campaign slogan of three elections… how dare you or those around you… ever "spin" 9/11." - Keith Olbermann 09/11/06

9. I agree, and this after it was made very clear - once again - that
there IS NO CONNECTION BETWEEN 9/11 AND SADDAM HUSSEIN/THE WAR IN IRAQ!

Do you suppose somebody forgot to tell Bush this fact?

I think America is going to be fed up with him after tonight. He took the 5th year "anniversary" of a tragedy and made another lame attempt to sell his illegal, immoral, and unjustified war.

Keith Olberman nailed it when he said all we have 5 years later is a hole in the ground. No memorial, no building, just a hole. And no money to do anything because that garbage disposal known as the war in Iraq is eating all our money. It's shameful, and a disgrace to America.

I predict a major drop in Bush's poll numbers.

16. I wonder......

Do WE!!!!...really think 8/cheny really care what we think....you know they are getting their paycheck from all their contractor freinds...

My hope is that two months from today they are running scared with the thoughts of impeachment, imprisonment and bush finally has to put on a permanent face of SHAME as the most disgraceful president to occupy the white house...

18. Hear Fucking Hear! I'm Sendin The Video Link To Everyone I Know!
It wasn't just one thing, two things or three things that made the speech tremendously powerful and ballsy. There were dozens of things that made it one of the most incredible pieces of commentary I have ever heard.

My favorite little snip out of the dozens? "Mr. Bush".

about what the fuck to do with the Iraq mess.

after all, 9/11 is why we are there, right?

Then when the chimp came on, I said "Fuck it", and turned on Comedy Central. If I want stupidity, I'll go with the pro's!

21. So he turned it into just another Stay The Course pile of catlogs?
Big fucking mistake. The last thing people want to hear is how we have to keep pounding our head into the bricks because to stop doing so would convey weakness, especially today. On today of ALL days.

His speech to the joint session of Congress was the greatest missed opportunity in American history in terms of policy. His speech tonight, if it was just the same old shit, was the greatest missed opportunity in terms of politics. He could have at least TRIED to rein in the backstabbing bullshit, but no. He just couldn't do it.

But when has he ever shown evidence of understanding?

24. A Two-Part Speech: Bullwinkle428's 10-second summary!
Part I : They hate us for our freedoms...we must continue to KILL, KILL, KILL!!!!!

Part II : This is EXACTLY like World War II...we musn't lose our resolve.

Interspersed, of course, with all of the same G.O.P. talking points we've been hearing since 9/11/01.
