Football and Flybys
Say....how many of us live near an NFL stadium?

Was yesterday opening day for you too? I live not too far from Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, and I saw an F-117 Nighthawk out and about for the kickoff festivities.

But....we're at war. Don't our front-line jets have something more important to do? Why aren't they dropping bombs on our enemies, instead of showing off for the football fans?

Speaking of which, at every airshow I have ever been to, they always tell us that the Thunderbirds or the Blue Angels are just a regular fighter wing with special paint...and they could be converted to combat ops and sent overseas in as much time as it takes to repaint the jets.

We're at war. Why aren't our best pilots overseas fighting our enemies over there so they don't attack us over here?

:sarcasm:

1. Drive up Patriotic Zeal
Get the sheep to gape in awe at the glory of the Empire.

Rome did it with Bread and Circuses.

The Nazis did it with their movies.

The Soviets did it with their May Day parade.

In the end an Empire will always be an empire.

3. A couple of reasons.
Folks train over here, that's why those jets are here.

Folks need to fly so many hours a month to get flight pay. So, a lot of desk jockeys fly x hours a month to get this pay. It also serves the purpose of keeping them familiar with flying.

So, some lucky guy who needs the flight hours gets to go over the stadium.

If they weren't flying over stadiums, they'd be flying somewhere else to log those same flight minutes/hours.

AND, they do it because it's a great recruiting tool.
