A bit of good news, "The Path" tied for last place in ratings on Sunday.
Edited on Mon Sep-11-06 11:11 AM by gully
In fact "Path" rivaled the awesome documentary and CBS repeat "911" - in spite of all the publicity.

At least half of all Americans interested in the subject matter - at least tuned into a REAL program about 911.

This must be disapointing? Even the SIMPONS beat the "Path to 911."

-Ratings Breakdown:

Household Rating/Share

NBC: 12.5/19, Fox: 8.0/12, ABC: 7.5/11, CBS: 7.4/11

Rankings
1. Sunday night football
2. The Simpsons
3. The Path
4. 911 (CBS rerun) almost tied for third.

NBC is shaping up to be the network to beat on Sunday in fourth quarter, with the Indianapolis vs. N.Y. Giants match-up on the premiere of Sunday Night Football at a hefty 15.1/23 in the overnights from 8:30-11:15 p.m. Earlier in the evening, the debut of pre-game Football Night in America averaged an approximate 6.3/10 in the overnights from 7-8:30 p.m. As a reminder, fast national results for Sunday were not available at press time.

Part one of miniseries The Path to 9/11 on ABC ran neck-and-neck with a repeat of documentary 9/11 on CBS in the metered markets. ABC’s The Path to 911 averaged an 8.2/12 from 8-11 p.m., while CBS’ 9/11 encore also posted an 8.2/12 from 8:30-10:30 p.m. A U.S. Open Tennis overrun on CBS (#2, 6.6/11 from 7-7:30 p.m.) delayed the start of the Eye net’s line-up by 30-minutes, leading into 60 Minutes at a 7.7/12 from 7:30-8:30 p.m. A repeat of Cold Case closed the evening for CBS with a 5.0/ 9 from 10:30-11:30 p.m. Also on ABC was a repeat of America’s Funniest Home Videos at a typical 5.0/ 8 from 7-8 p.m.

Fox debuted its Sunday night-night 8-10 p.m. line-up following a half-hour Football overrun (16.2/27 at 7 p.m.) and post-game coverage (10.3/17 at 7:30 p.m.). Season No. 18 of The Simpsons (can you believe how fast time is flying?) opened with a healthy 8.1/12 in the overnights (#3) at 8 p.m., which was down by just 6 percent from its year-ago season-premiere on Sunday 9/11/05 (8.6/13). That led into the season-premiere of American Dad at a fourth-place 6.0/ 9 at 8:30 p.m. -- 26 percent below lead-in The Simpsons. Keep in mind that former time period occupant The War at Home debuted with a similar 6.4/10 on the year-ago evening. At 9 p.m., the season-premiere of survivor Family Guy perked up to a 6.7/10 (#4) -- 2 percent above its year-ago season-premiere (6.6/10, also on 9/11/05). Capping off the evening for Fox was the second-season premiere of live-action sitcom The War at Home with a 5.0/ 7 at 9:30 p.m. -- 25 percent below lead-in Family Guy and 12 percent below the year-ago season-premiere of former occupant American Dad (5.7/ 8). Since Fox, of course, is dependent of the demos, the real results will follow once the nationals are released.

Source: Nielsen Media Research data

I believe these are preliminary results, but I find that amazing given all the attention ABC has had this week. Further the CBS doc was a REPEAT. So, thankfully half of all viewers "interested" in the subject matter tuned into a REAL documentary. And, of course Monday night football had almost as many viewers as BOTH CBS and ABC.

Again given the publicity, this is a small victory IMHO.

Or maybe I should clarify by saying I'm much more of a fan of the FANS of the NFL. They have the proper perspective in this case, obviously, not to mention excellent taste! May "Monday Night Football" yield the same results.

12. Is "the party over for Republicans?"
Don't want to sound too cocky (there's still election fraud to contend with) but perhaps Mr. Keillor is correct in his essay...

Published on Thursday, June 8 2006 by the Baltimore Sun
With Ineptitude on Full Display, the Party's Over for Republicans
by Garrison Keillor

People who live in mud huts should not throw mud, especially if it comes from their own roofs. As Scripture says, don't point to the speck in your neighbor's eye when you have a piece of kindling in your own.

I see by the papers that the Republicans want to make an issue of Nancy Pelosi in the congressional races this fall: Would you want a San Francisco woman to be speaker of the House?

Will the podium be repainted in lavender stripes with a disco ball overhead? Will she be borne into the chamber by male dancers with glistening torsos and wearing pink tutus? After all, in the unique worldview of old elephants, "San Francisco" is a code word for "g-a-y," and after assembling a record of government lies, incompetence and disaster, the party in power hopes that the fear of g-a-y-s will pull it through in November.

Running against Ms. Pelosi, a woman who comes from a district where there are known gay persons, is a nice trick, but it does draw attention to the large shambling galoot who is speaker now, Tom DeLay's enabler for years, a man who, judging by his public mutterances, is about as smart as most high school wrestling coaches

--more--
Common Dreams

And my favorite paragraph:
The iPod was not developed by Baptists in Waco. There may be a reason for this. Creative people thrive in a climate of openness and tolerance, since some great ideas start out sounding ridiculous.
:D

16. For those confused by the numbers...
The first number in each pair is the number of ratings points. A single national ratings point represents 1%, or 1,102,000 households for the 2005-06 season. The second number is the share. Share is the percentage of television sets in use tuned to a specific program.

23. look for much worse ratings tonight
there's a lot more competition on the nets on a Monday than a Sunday, and nobody who missed pt1 will bother to watch pt2. The length of the show pretty much guaranteed it would flop in the ratings. The upshot is that these right wing financed partisan hit pieces won't be green-lit anymore, so this film's director and his vision of overtaking Hollywood with conservative films is finished.

31. Right. Ah, the irony
conservatives live for the dollar. It's their real god.
And now, the gods have spoken.
And they haven't smiled on the conservative Hollywood agenda.
Nobody watches. Nobody buys. Nobody greenlights.
We Americans like our football, our CSI, our Project Runway, and our Lost.
And we really don't care for Swiftboat Liars as movie execs.

37. Actually, you should ask my 2 yr and 6 yr old who love Pink! I was busy
making dinner, Pachapapa had the TV on NBC for football and all of the sudden, my 6 year old starts screaming "Mommy, Mommy! I think Pink is on TV!"

I came running out of the kitchen into the family room and sure enough, there was Pink in some really hot outfits (without wardrobe malfunctions, but still sexy) and singing and dancing away.

While I'll admit, it has never been something I like very much when I hear great tunes change the lyrics for something "commercial" (think U2 or Sting for example and even recently Sheryl Crow), I will admit I was happy to see Pink kicking some ass on NBC. My kids were excited and jumping up and down. They love it ofcourse when in the car I play some of her music (even my 2 year old sometimes will say "Lets get this party started" or request "Mr. President, Mommmy! Play Mr. President!".) I'll turn "Dear Mr. President" on and they will shout "Louder, Mommy!" and then I can see in the rear view mirror them singing the words....

I'm so proud of my Pachababies!

28. well they got Football tonight
Even if they lose to ESPN they win, since they are partners with ESPN. The real interest is to see if Monday night football rating drop going from network to cable. Either way ABC itself sure stands to lose from having the opening week of Monday night football with Al and John to having a Rightwing crapfeast noone outside of the great backwash wants to see. NBC went into the toilet after losing NFL football.

29. I watched it, and can see why it flopped.
It was too long, too complicated, and no commercials meant no time to get up and get a snack or go to the bathroom! It was primarily an action film--the more violent scenes being the easiest to understand (especially if you just got back from the bathroom). The conversations were badly acted and directed and incomprehensible unless you were maybe already a CIA agent yourself.

So to the Repub backers: ha, ha, ha! I predict the audience tuning in for part two will be much, much smaller. Unfortunately that is the part that has a chance of blaming the current adm. for stuff, if they do.

30. I bet about now Harvey Keitel
wishes he had Arnie from "Entourage" as his agent. Arnie would NEVER put Vince into a situation where his career becomes tied to a rightwing loser "docudrama" which relies on composite characters and fictional dialogue to describe the "path" to America's darkest day.
Keitel let himself become part of the "Swiftboat Liars do TV" mess.
Where was his agent?
The man/woman couldn't do a google search to find out who these yahoos are behind this propaganda?
Just like Faux News'Sean Hannity and ole Scotty McClellan couldn't do a google search to find out Jeff Gannon was a male prostitute...instead of a "distinguished journalist" (Hannity) or journalist worthy of White House press credentials (McClellan)...post 9-11 when security was so tight for journalists Mo Dowd couldn't get clearance.
But a guy with a fake name and a fake resume could.
The rightwing billions are buying our media.
Fake news. Fake docudramas. Fake evidence of WMD. Fake evidence of Iraq ties to 9-11.
Poor America.
We're being punked.

If the Path to 9/11 beat The Simpsons I would have been pissed.

The Simpsons is one of the greatest television shows of all time. The Path to 9/11 on the other hand, well I have to admit I did not watch it but my hunch is that it makes Battlefield Earth look like a classic of American cinema.
