Poll question: In tomorrow's Rhode Island primary...
Republican incumbent Lincoln Chafee is fighting to hold his U.S. Senate seat against a strong challenge by Stephen Laffey, the very conservative Mayor of Cranston.

Chafee is too conservative for many liberals, but too liberal for some Republicans. Laffey is running to Chafee's right, trying to grab the nomination, but faces poor odds in a general election against likely Democratic nominee Sheldon Whitehouse.

The national GOP backs Chafee for fear of losing the seat, but are said to be worried about the race no matter which man wins nomination.

What do you think happens tomorrow in Rhode Island?

1. Whitehouse will win the general who ever wins the primary.

2. Good words, those. Hi, AX10. If what you say is so, and I think you're
right, then it gives us 1 of the 6 seats we need for a Senate flip.

And it's just fine with me if it starts tomorrow in Rhode Island.

3. Good, we can win easily if they rip themselves in half
If Chafee is forced to go more conservative to confront Laffey, then we automatically get the position to entice middle voters as well as liberal voters.

5. Yes. I'd love to see Rhode Island Democrats landslide the Republican
nominee.

And the numbers look pretty good.

4. This is a definite Whitehouse win if Laffey wins the primary...
a tossup if Chafee does, though I would lean toward Whitehouse.

So, although it seems weird to root for a Neanderthal like Laffey -- GO LAFFEY!!!

6. Laffey has to be far right to stir up enough zealots to vote against
Chafee but then is marooned if he wins the primary in a state of pretty liberal Democrats.

I love it.
