ABC Hits Panic Button?
ABC Hits Panic Button? Frantic Re-Write Misfires
by kidneystones
Mon Sep 11, 2006

John Aravosis, an activist who knows a thing or two about organizing and punishing major corporations, posted this PT 9/11 image from Australia's TV 7 on his site a few days ago, remarking: "My inner lawyer is just relishing the lawsuits that Disney/ABC and every TV network around the world are going to face come Monday morning. As the other stories now prove, Disney/ABC knew OVER ONE YEAR AGO that their show was riddled with inaccuracies, they refused to fix it, and then they ran ads claiming the show was 'exactly what happened'. That is a prima facie case for libel, even against a public figure."

Looks like ABC/Disney got the message, albeit one day late. Check out the change: Same image, same lead, but a change in copy that states clearly we're going to be watching something very different from "the official story of exactly what happened" on 9/11. Yes. Sometime in the last 24 hours, the Australian TV 7 version of The Path to 9/11 changed from "The story of exactly what happened" into a "thrilling dramatised investigation".

1. And they still didn't get it right
From all accounts this docudrama is anything but "thrilling."

5. That's what has to happen
I sincerely hope Clinton's team of lawyers are suggesting it to him.

Somebody has to stand up to these liars. You and I can't do it. He can.

"docu-drama" may do more to getting at what really happened than anything else has been able to do. The Jersey Girls are to be admired as well as the other family members getting the 9-11 Commission formed but THIS.....

8. investigation still insiutates that they have uncovered the "TRUTH"
Dramatisation may be a way of skirting the edges of the actual language used...but clearly Disney is claiming to have a hold of the pre-9/11 truth.

"How much advanced notice did you give the Pakistanies, Sec. Albright...how far in advance?"

Or as ABC would say: it is a dramatised quotation.

U.S. It is part of the strategy of confusion and dis-reality so that they can get their base locking on to whichever they want them to believe and have them use it in sealing their loyalty and calling it in to the WJ. It is also part of the strategy to leave the impression in the heads of the non-fundamentalists who operate on fleeting headlines - to make them think that everything is OK or everything is justified.

If we watch the WH in action, they will usually have George or some high up saying one thing and within 8 hours before of after, one of their high ups is saying the opposite.

They may be practicing it in Australia. But, given what we know about the threats to Disney and ABC - I hope Daily Kos is right and that it is all going to end up in legal retribution.

13. I didn't know you could undo libel so easily
If you say something libelous about someone, is it undone by informally saying something else? (I assume a formal apology or retraction will do the trick, but this change doesn't seem like enough to me, once the lie has been told.)

14. Hey Lawyers ... weigh in on this for us
Do Albright, Berger and Clinton have a lawsuit here?

ABC ran disclaimers saying it was a fictionalised dramatization compressed, conflated and so on ... does that get them off the hook?

If it ran in other countries billed as a documentary but not here are they liable?

18. Lawsuit
I don't know about a class lawsuit which as we know would go thru the federal courts and hard to tell when you would get a shot probably 2121. What I want to know is, do you think there is a basis for a private citizen to file a lawsuit (if they were a democrat) for the slander of our elected officials. I don't have the moola to do something like this, it is just that I wanted to know. Can anybody answer.:kick:

21. Of course, ABC Disney will recoup losses in a big way
just tonite on Monday Night Football! The ratings for this will surely be outta the roof!

I'm a football fan, and as a former athlete a big fan of a wide variety of sports, organized and otherwise. I have depended on ESPN and even Fox Sports Southwest for some time for a lot of my sporting news and viewing. So now I'm suffering a terrible quandary because I'm boycotting ABC (not difficult) and will even limit my ESPN intake due to that POS fictional propaganda -- and VERY BORING -- TV-movie that began airing last night.

But if anyone thinks I or many thousands (millions?) of others who will happily boycott the crap out of the ABC Disney interests otherwise, but in so doing would MISS tonight's MNF extravaganza, I'm afraid it's a write-off from that respect. :hurts:

Just ain't gonna happen. Usually I don't have this problem in living out my political convinctions, but man, what is a sports fan gonna DO these days? All the corporate mega-mergers have played hell with boycott planning.

Glad my TV isn't in a Nielsen household, at least....

And I've never visited a Disney "theme park" in my life, nor has anyone in my family that I know of. No more Disney movies for me, either -- though I seldom caught those anymore anyways. Surely that should count for SOMETHING!... ??

Man, I just have to say, the whole concept of boycotting for political and personal belief reasons is something I adore; but just figuring out what products are connected to whom and how we can do the most damage using our buying (or viewing) practices is a bit more complex, IMO.

Please now, if you still wanna spank me, be kind and be gentle, ok? I'm not a bad person! I just f'ing LOVE FOOTBALL! (And I'm not even gonna cheer on my favored teams here, so does that help?) :)

As for lawsuits against all those who had anything to do with that Path to 9/11 propaganda-lie-filled crap, by those who have both the resources and the legitimate cause for bringing them -- I'm all for it! I would even love to see someone like Harve Keitel, who is already pissed at deceptions aimed at him and others appearing in the movie by those who hired and directed the acting talent, file a huge lawsuit now that the final product has aired and had him presenting lies, fiction, and libelous claptrap which he never would have done had he known, methinks....

28. Well, well, well...sue the bums. The initial image indicates intent.
The second indicates guilt based on the change. It will take a lawyer but this could get
interesting. If there are deliberate lies in this, then ABC can be sued here, in addition to
having their license pulled, and held to account for calling a $40 million dollar political
contributoin a business expense. They have to be severely punished for this, severely.

I wouldn't want to hold one share of their stock after today.
