1. your post
I am new here.

But I was also working downtown when it all happened.

We saw people jumping. I carry a scar on my left arm from
shrapnel from the second plane's impact.

There were many things wrong that contributed to that day.

But using this day to promote some political gain, right or
left, is very wrong.

The fallen, and their families, deserve more than that.

"But using this day to promote some political gain, right or

That's exactly what he's doing. They DO deserve more than that. They deserve more than our silence while Bush and his cronies climb a mountain of the dead and fill their pockets.

I am sorry for what you saw, and I am sorry all those personally touched by that horror have to have their faces rubbed in it all day today. But when you hear about record Halliburton profits, look at that scar on your arm.

EDIT: That said, I think interrupting the moment of silence might be a bit much, though I do firmly support what I think the OP was hoping that would accomplish. Flies, honey, vinegar--I don't think that'd be taken as honey.

5. Yes
Bush was very wrong. Clinton was very wrong.

This isn't about the decades or centuries long fight between "the West" and Islam. Nor about any two factions contemporaneously.

This day is about 3000+ (when you factor in the later deaths from respiratory diseases) dead.

We can fight politics another day.

Can't we reserve this day to honor those who had fallen???

7. Clinton was not wrong
and this day is about the dead and the moment of silence will be about them which is why i disagree with what the OP is suggesting we do.

it's already disgusting Bush has used them for the past 5 years to cause suffering for many around the world.

9. I agree
Today is about the victims. It's bad enough BushCo disrespects them every time they mention 9-11.

Welcome to DU, ExAverni.

12. That's what the day SHOULD be about, but instead it's about
an opportunity to repeat the Official Story, ad nauseam.

Why not just run the names in a scroll--I know some network did that a few years back, and that was both sad and dignified and honorable.

I know that's so many people even a short word about each would be impossible--how about a randomly drawn hundred each Sept 11th, and let someone close to them say a few things about each one? He liked fishing and made the best french toast ever, and I miss him. She was the love of my life and nothing will ever replace her.

Why not make it about the fallen--and not about their deaths, but about their lives and what joy they brought to the world? Instead it's about one more chance for rich white men in suits to say "Al Qaeda" and "Iraq" in the same few sentences.

6. No?
As I said, I am new here.

If your answer about saving this day for the families of the deceased was "No", I truelly hope you are not representative of the many people here.

Some things SHOULD be sacred, "NO"?

10. No. A moment of silence is a moment of respect and reflection.
I lost two people in 9-11 and that moment of silence is respectful mourning for them and the thousands of other people who died that day.

To ruin that just to scream at Bush is reprehensible. Scream at Bush any other time you want, but 9-11 is to remember those who lost their lives. Their friends. Their family members. On that day.

Exploitation is wrong whether it is coming from the right or the left.

11. That's fucking disgusting.
I know the MIHOP crew make a habit of spitting on the memories of the dead, but Jesus fucking Christ, if you don't like the moment of silence, just ignore it. Why do you feel justified in pushing your claptrap onto people who want no part of it?

16. I don't think this act of rebellion would insult the dead.
Don't the dead scream when brush and his minions use them to promote his anti-American regime?

A quick review of American popular culture ghost stories will convince you that the dead do not rest until their murderer is brought to justice. Yet Bin Laden is free to plot and plan another massacre.

I think a more apt remark during the moment of silence would be "Where is Bin Laden."

The massacred thousands of 9/11 must know that brush removed our soldiers from Saudi Arabia just like Bin Laden wanted. They know brush protected the oil fields of Iraq and removed their offending Shiite leader of the country, just like Bin Laden wanted. It must bother the dead to hear the president of the United States quote Bin Laden in speeches as if the terrorist were a hero.

No I think the dead would cheer if someone would rebel against making their murderer a legend.

19. Of course it is about the victims. Who planned and orchestrated
their murder? I believe the victims would want to see justice brought to the man who murdered them.
