A NOTE ON THIS ANNIVERSARY
Edited on Sun Sep-10-06 11:41 PM by WilliamPitt
Five years after Pearl Harbor, the war had been over for months, and that months-old victory had been achieved beyond any dispute.

And that war was won by a Democrat.

Two of them, actually.

It was a big war, in a bunch of countries, agaainst an unutterably evil enemy.

Or so I was told.

So.

16. 911 + Katrina
FDR had to rebuild the NAVY after Pearl Harbor--and he did with a quickness. Not only do we no longer have that capability(we no longer manufacture anything here), but we can't even house people 1 year after their home has been stripped away by a hurricane!

I get so fucking mad when these clowns try to scare us by saying that maybe a terrorist could use a nuclear weapon on the US. :wtf: The Gulf Coast looked like a nuke had gone off after Katrina--entire communities were gone, hundreds of thousands of US citizens had no homes or place to go--and what did bush*s administration do? He swept them under the rug.

Bush* and anyone who supports him can kiss my ass!

18. Great rant from Steve Gilliard's blog back then, bears repeating
http://stevegilliard.blogspot.com/2005/09/we-told-you-so.html

(snip)
Ever wonder why New Yorkers detest George Bush?

Because we experienced his incompetence up close and person. We knew this guy was full of shit, absolutely full of fucking shit, after they started to play games with the funding and gave Wyoming terrorism money. We knew he was an assclown then.

We thought DC 9/11 was a comedy, because the Bush we saw hid in AF One like the scared bitch that he is.
(snip)
Say 9/11 changed everything now, motherfuckers. Ooops, 9/11, 9/11. 9/11. Doesn't work anymore? Gee, maybe the sea of alligator MRE's once known as the citizens of New Orleans has something to do with that. Now you can shut the fuck up about 9/11. Bush just proved what would happen with another 9/11. Dead Americans as far as the nose can smell.
(snip)

6. There's a reason Republicans like to point to Abraham Lincoln
He was the last Republican to actually lead. Too bad he was essentially a Democrat by todays standards. Has there ever been a true "ignorance is bliss" Republican that has amounted to anything? They like to prop up Reagan, but he was in idiot who simply spewed movie lines. Tough to lead when one does not believe in intellect or science.

I think Ike was probably the last decent Republican.
After him you are not going to find any repugs who's term didn't end in a ton of scandals.

10. Yeah, I'll give you that
Funny how Republicans are not so enamored with him - perhaps because he was fairly pragmatic. His words about the military-industrial complex were prophetic. More recently, they seem to most like the immature reactionaries that they have been electing lately. Too bad it's a short-term boost - like candy. Maybe they will reform some day, but they are surely headed into the shitter when this current run is over.

...what has happened to his Conservative party that he fought so hard for. I remember he used to talk about the undue influence of the Religious Right on the party.

I'm pretty sure he would be absolutely appalled at what has happened to them lately.

7. Great yet sad
Great that Democrats can win wars and not have people looking at repugs that they are the ones who monopolize war victories. Sad because of the fact we have to have nukes to win, costing millions of innocent lives.

19. And we nuked a country to do it....
60 million people died in that war, more than half of them civilians.

Let's not forget that before we go comparing it to what's going on now.

20. Didn't you here, ABC is going to air "Path to Pearl Harbor" on 12/7
In it, he blames FDR for giving the maps needed for Japan to hit Pearl Harbor.
