12. My two favorite characters:
The Jeepnee and the color Green. Not just any green, it's my favorite; that bright, 'parrot' green. I noticed it several times. Shirts, 'conference rooms (whatever)' and other places.

This "movie" was brought to you by the color green (when it wasn't brought to you by brown, dusty colors).

53. Well. after 100 minutes, here's what I've "learned" from this piece of
... cinematic feces.

You can identify a 'terrorist' by the sheen of sweat all over his unwashed, unshaven face along with eyes that furtively look left and right. These are obviously people who hate us for our freedom to use soap, water, shampoo, antiperspirant, flushable commodes, and Gillette blades - not to mention laundromats, dry cleaners, and steam irons. All of the aforementioned items are unavailable to 'terrorists' along with stuffed furniture, vacuum cleaners, and any kind of cleaning products. The only Muslims who bathe and wear clean clothes are in the Pakistani military.

One of the reasons the 'terrorists' don't bathe and wear clean clothes is because, as this fecal feature points out, they've killed all the women wherever they've been - except for when they're in strip bars, sloshing down alcohol like all terrorists do, apparently. (Maybe that's why they have those "hangover sweats"??)

The Americans working outside Washington are heroes and the only thing stopping them from wiping out all terrorists all over the world are the bureaucrats who can't seem to stop partying and going to dinner and getting blow jobs long enough to give approval for the "good guys" to arrest all the bad guys. Despite the best cellular technology - without signal drop out ANYWHERE - the good guys are always being put on hold.

The most important death in the first WTC bombing was the young, pretty, personable, pregnant woman (freshly bathed and wearing clean clothes, of course) working in the booth behind the glass that became shrapnel.

It seems to me that we could wipe out terrorism if we merely exported a few billion dollars worth of bathrooms and laundromats.

:puke:

128. Thanks. Re: 'soap and water' ... well, that's the message of PT911.
All of the subliminal elements of the movie are uniformly designed to appeal to an extreme conservative perspective, imho. Jingoistic, racist, and fascist. In a sense, it's more comedic than the old westerns where the 'bad gus' wore black hats and needed to bathe and the 'good guys' wore white hats and looked like they visit the spa daily. Like the Church's old Morality Plays.

There isn't even the slightest hint that these people have any legitimate reason to feel anger. There is NOTHING about corporate predation, the oppression of vast majorities of 'hoi polloi' for the benefit of an elite (neocolonial Quislings) or any of the social or economic issues that have festered for many decades. The caricatures are obscenely biased.

56. commission report
http://www.9-11commission.gov/archive/hearing8/9-11Commission_Hearing_2004-03-24.htm

"Senior NSC staff members told us they believed the President's intent was clear: He wanted bin Ladin dead. On successive occasions, President Clinton issued authorities instructing the CIA to use its proxies to capture or assault bin Ladin and his lieutenants in operations in which they might be killed. The instructions, except in one defined contingency, were to capture bin Ladin if possible. "

Senior legal advisers in the Clinton administration agreed that, under the law of armed conflict, killing a person who posed an imminent threat to the United States was an act of self-defense, not an assassination. As former National Security Adviser Berger explained, "If we wanted to kill bin Ladin with cruise missiles, why would we not want to kill him with covert action?" Clarke's recollection is the same.

But if the policymakers believed their intent was clear, every CIA official interviewed on this topic by the Commission, from DCI Tenet to the official who actually briefed the agents in the field, told us they heard a different message.

"What the United States would let the military do is quite different," Tenet said, "from the rules that govern covert action by the CIA." CIA senior managers, operators and lawyers uniformly said that they read the relevant authorities signed by President Clinton as instructing them to try to capture bin Ladin, except in the defined contingency.

They believed that the only acceptable context for killing bin Ladin was a credible capture operation. Quote: "We always talked about how much easier it would have been to kill him," end of quote, a former chief of the bin Ladin station said.

Working-level CIA officers said they were frustrated by what they saw as the policy restraints of having to instruct their assets to mount a capture operation. When Northern Alliance leader Massoud was briefed on the carefully-worded instructions for him, the briefer recalls that Massoud laughed and said, quote, "You Americans are crazy. You guys never change." End of quote.

"To further cloud the picture, two senior CIA officers told us they would have been morally and practically opposed to getting CIA into what might look like an assassination. One of them, a former Counterterrorism Center chief, said that he would have refused an order to directly kill bin Ladin.

Where NSC staff and CIA officials agree is that no one at CIA, including Tenet and Pavitt, ever complained to the White House that the authorities were restrictive or unclear. Berger told us, quote, "If there was ever any confusion, it was never conveyed to me or the President by the DCI or anybody else." End of quote. "

"Deputy Director for Operations Pavitt told commission staff that doing stuff on the margins was not the way to get this job done. If the U.S. government was serious about eliminating the al Qaeda threat, it required robust offensive engagement across the entire U.S. government.

DCI Tenet also understood the CIA's limitations. He told staff that the CIA's odds of success in Afghanistan before 9/11 were between 10 and 20 percent. This was not because the CIA lacked the capabilities to attack the target, he said, but because the mission was extremely challenging.

Covert action was not a silver bullet, but it was important to engage proxies and to build various capabilities so that, if an opportunity presented itself, the CIA could act on it. "You could get really lucky on any given day," Tenet said. "

93. Yes, this is one of the neo-cons recurrent propaganda points.
The neo-cons are 'real men' who want to fight evil.

'Liberals' are wussies who want to use the legal system and the Constitution.

I refer (or defer) to Lakoff. The writer and producer of this "film" are playing out the Strict Father version of reality.

Don't forget that the Bushites have declared their inherent right to declare reality.

NOT, we don't need to watch to make up our minds. Just like we don't watch Bush and still have made up our minds no matter what he spews. If you don't believe what has been reported prior to the showing, maybe you don't believe it's not Clinton's fault.

Freepers constantly trashed that movie but never watched it. I will not be like them.

It was also reported widely that ABC was re-editing the movie, so maybe what was reported was cut (or not as I have SEEN).

Thats pretty low to claim that I think its Clintons fault.

80. First interesting thing happened here in Tulsa...
The local ABC station just ran a crawl -- with an annoying bleeping noise to get your attention like a tornado alert -- and in bright blue against the drab movie colors, saying, "KTUL-TV does not agree with the views and politics of this ABC production" or something like that. They ran it complete with continuous bleeping till the message went by about five or six times!

Seems the local affiliate at least doesn't want anyone thinking they actually AGREED with the propaganda....

Interesting that they chose the moments just after the infamous scenes where the supposed-Berger-character squirmed and wouldn't give the order to kill OBL. I don't think they cut ANY of the "incriminating" lines all the controversy pre-airing were about.

Mostly the film is boring dreck, but the game is terrific! Eli just caught 'em up to within two points of Indy and brother Peyton's lead with a nice TD pass.

TD receiver gave the ball to a military-clad dude in the crowd, and hugged him. John Madden, whom I normally like a lot, said, "That's something we need to see more of in the NFL."

Say WHAT???

Can't I watch ANYTHING without being pelted with catapulted propaganda??

:GROAN:

Oh, and I read in an article earlier today that ABC was going to run their "detailed disclaimer" FOUR TIMES throughout the airing of the miniseries.

I think I know why they didn't bother to edit out the scenes that were causing all the hype and controversy, though. Among other obvious reasons, it was those scenes that they knew would draw INTEREST among viewers! And they knew they'd NEED all the tricks they could come up with to help to keep people watching this boring crap.

126. I thought the same thing.
Undoubtedly even if there was not a great deal of pressure applied to local affiliates, the furor about the upcoming movie only heated up near to the air-date, so locals had little recourse -- or at least none that were very optimal for their own needs. What would they air instead? They didn't even have any commercials scheduled for the time period!

Also I'm certain that whatever "commercial" (read political/fundie) income that local affiliates would receive from airing the fraudumovie would have been denied them had they not run the thing.

So the pressures, subtle and otherwise, on them to expose their viewers to it were surely strong. I don't hold it against them so much because of the crawl warning they ran and how they ran it. I'm sure many affiliate stations across the nation will get an earful anyway from plenty of angry people. I'm satisfied with that -- for now.

It jumped all over the place, and I didn't even try to pay attention. Ramsey Youssif, Ramsey Youssif, Ramsey Youssif. That is what I heard the most.

I don't even know how it ended. Furthermore, I don't care. I doubt it had much value as propaganda. It was unwatchable.
