I give up - there's no hope at all
Just like those who supported revolting against the British Empire. They had no hope and just gave up.

Just like those who supported adding the Bill of Rights to the Constitution. They had no hope and just gave up.

Just like those who supported overturning slavery. They had no hope and just gave up.

Just like those who supported giving women the right to vote. They had no hope and just gave up.

Just like those who supported giving African-Americans the right to vote. They had no hope and just gave up.

Whenever I feel like the battle is too hard or too long or too costly I remember those who came before us and fought extremely hard for what they believed was right. They persevered even though many of them never got to enjoy the fruits of their labor.

And I don't give up. I don't lose hope.

Neither should you. Freedom is worth it.

3. I like the historic context
you put this in! Most people do not realize just how on the edge we are of losing it all, losing democracy itself. We can never give up, we can't ever give in.

4. "illegitimati non carburundum" VERY loose latin for "don't let the
bastards grind you down!!" which is pretty much the way I feel-- I will NEVER give up hope, give up working for what I believe in, even as the last breath leaves my body--will probably be arguing with the powers-that-be on the other side to let me finish.

6. I had that on my tee-shirt in boot camp
One of our company commanders had suggested the psuedo-latin for our motto.

We have to keep on encouraging each other, just as the freedom-fighters of days past did.

I find myself beginning to weigh the costs of keeping a good job and providing for my family and doing what I feel I must do.

12. 9/11: Press for Truth - The paradigm shift happens now
Although the term "paradigm shift" has been used to the point of rendering it a cliché, I believe it is apropos.

There is a change coming.

16. Me too.
When surfing you sometimes miss the wave you wanted. But more often than not, a nice set is coming your way.

I feel like we've missed one wave and a new one is coming.

And I have a feeling that we'll catch this one...

19. This morning I had an "Oh I give up" moment
Just hearing the local news reader say in describing those having objections to P911 as being "mostly democrats" :wtf:

Andrew Sullivan, Faux News hosts, and Bill freakin Bennett?

Did they switch parties, and nobody told me?

Of course it was the local PayBC affiliate, but that's neither here nor rthere. I just felt so helpless in that moment. The machinations of Those in Power to have their message broadcast, if only to the point of this wee bit of editorialization can be forgotten or giggled off at times, but this just stunned me for some reason. It then inspired me to shoot my writer's cramp a lovely FU note and scribble this:

That'll be a little bit of light here in Texas.

21. Here's one of my favorite quotes:
Edited on Sun Sep-10-06 06:07 PM by pnorman
"Look at a stone cutter hammering away at his rock, perhaps a hundred times without as much as a crack showing in it. Yet at the hundred-and-first blow it will split in two, and I know it was not the last blow that did it, but all that had gone before."
Jacob August Riis

NEVER GIVE UP!

PS: Edited to correct a minor typo. But I'll take this opportunity to cite a brief bio of Jacob Riis: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacob_Riis Be sure to check out the on-line version of his best known work --- "How the Other Half Lives": http://www.cis.yale.edu/amstud/inforev/riis/title.html You most likely have seen some of his photos in the past.

22. Give UP......
I think that the movie the republicans have made about 9/11 and ABC would not pull, was the straw that broke the camel's back. I think that the Real Americans in this country are going to raise hell. I think this time they took off more than they can chew. And I think that they are going to get a hell of a surprise in November. The American people are absolute sick of this crap....The republicans think they can do anything they want and this time they got fooled. ABC has not heard the last of this, not by a long shot. And bush, cheney and rove think they pulled another swift boat, this time on President Clinton, but this did them in, it did...

23. When I start....
I remember all those people who
worked so hard before I was even born,
and know that I treasure their work
as I live my freedom filled life based upon
their accomplishments.

So I get up, stop feeling sorry for myself
and go after those bush bastards.

30. It's fine to remember the winners
But people have lost, even those that kept on fighting. Their fights didn't always end up on the winning side either.

Know what all those wins accomplished? Everyone gets to live like everyone else within the system that was set up as an organized power structure which is contributing to all the problems that we face. But at least anyone can have a chance to be part of the problem. It's not just for us white men anymore.

Losing hope is the only way anything will actually change.

many years of hard work, and in many cases, much shed blood. Makes ya wonder, are today's Americans willing to give up their comforts to enact another major change?

37. I ask myself that
And there's only one way to find out.

I'm sure that when Patrick Henry said "Give me liberty or give me death" he thought that others were backing him.

Maybe not all Americans are willing to pay the price that being a true patriot entails, but I believe there's enough of them to make a difference.
