Why it occured to me that this all is REALLY going to backfire....
Edited on Sun Sep-10-06 12:42 PM by kerry-is-my-prez
#1) From now on the term "liberal media" is dead. No-one will be able to use it AGAIN without looking like a fool. This is something that has REALLY been used to the right's advantage and that the media has been really defensive about. It's a HUGE reason why the media has been so toothless and self-censoring.

We can point to the fact that a major network ran a "right wing" movie that "made up things, out-and-out lied and slandered Clinton." We now have an comeback to the phrase "Liberal Media." To top it all off it was run in the middle of prime time on the most popular tv viewing night of the week (actually two nights) without commercials. That they were so desperate to get the right-wing message out that they ran it for free.

#2) The Propaganda aspect: THEN to make it even worse let George "Dumbya" Bush give a little speech in the middle of it - this is ABSOLUTELY unprecedented in our nation's history. Something akin to what would be done back in the old Soviet Union.

I think this is something that people will really be talking about and may just actually scare some people if you point it out like that.

Seriously, even if Clinton were to do something like this in the middle of a war - it would scare me and I think many others here.

#3) Dumbya appearing in the middle of this makes it look like he put his stamp of approval on it - like it was even his movie and he's supplying the commentary on it. This REALLY looks bad. I think this is going to add to the anger of anyone who objects to this even slightly. Maybe even make many Republcians question it all.

1. Yes, but the premise of this backfiring....
...like the premise of anything they do backfiring, is predicated on the idea that enough people pay attention to this stuff for it to have an impact, and that those people are not already divided or decided along their partisan lines.

As much as this movie and the way ABC/Disney is handling it sucks, and as furious as I am, I am a political junkie who reads tons of blogs and political sites and message boards every single day. Most people don't fall under that category, and those that do already have their minds made up where they stand.

7. Americans aren't that stupid.
Of course the small minority of brainwashed bushbots will cheerlead for anything Der Fuhrer does, but most people can figure out the obvious. It is obvious that the ABC/Disney/* cabal conUmentary is nothing but propaganda. The fact that it's so IN YOU FACE will scare people to death, imho. I do believe Pukes have gone too far, especially in light of revelations from the Senate committee that we were lied to about the basis for going to war in Iraq. Almost 3,000 young Americans have died as a result. This CANNOT be sitting well with most Americans. The Repukes lie, kill, and destroy. And it is now clear that they do so.

Pukes are now the frog in the pot.

11. It's not a matter of stupid...
It's a matter of not informed. What gets us all (myself included) in a huff on message boards and on political blogs, is 80% of the time not even on the radar of the average American. They just are not that engaged politically to the degree that would be needed for something like this to have an impact on an election. Yeah, if we had a media that beat the drum about how shady this was 24-7 and in newspapers and on network news. But we don't and it won't, no matter how warm and fuzzy it makes us feel to dash off those indignant e-mails and letters to the networks and Disney and what have you. But the fact is that the majority of voters DON'T read blogs, DON'T read political message boards, DON'T watch cable news shout fests.

Many of the people I know are very smart, very educated, and very liberal. But even they most of the time look at me like I have 2 heads when I start talking to them about a good chunk of the things that are all over the blogsphere and all over DU. Even if they're sypathetic to an issue or cause, they just don't spend as much time thinking about this stuff as we on here do. At least not to the degree that it would cause some sort of tidal wave of backlash.

The bottom line is that we should keep trying and always fight the good fight, but the fact is that most of the time we have an inflated sense of the importance of a particular subject to the voters.

12. Personally, I believe it is just too obvious now.
One doesn't need blogs to figure out what's going on. Just my opinion, but I talk with a lot of people in a conservative area who are mad, mad, mad at the Repubs. IF the votes are fairly counted, we take back the House and probably the Senate. That "if" is a really big factor, however.

2. I agree with you
every day I meet more and more reformed citizens. It worked for them for a good long time, even here. (I just read the 9-11-01 archives)

Even Fox is questioning them.

6. But you are being logical. There is nothing
logical about what has gone wrong in the last 6 years. Yes, the media have become lapdogs for the right wing because they fear being labeled "liberal." Fear is what motivates the Republicans. When one network caters to one party (the one in power) we can't believe anything anymore. It may be inevitable that the others follow suit but that is the chance we take. America has stopped being the "land of the free and the home of the brave. I hope you are correct in that Karma may intervene and make monkeys of the Republicans, but I will not hold my breath. There is no telling how many nefarious tricks Karl Rove has up his sleeve and will use them.

10. All this is going to backfire on them.
The name-calling, the dirty tricks, the propaganda, etc. All of it.

The people are pissed about all the failures, Iraq, Katrina, and by now, 9/11, too. They are tired of the dirty tricks and the name-calling while a rubber-stamping Congress continues their delusional agenda.

What's going to work this election is that people are going to go into the voting booth and put the Democrats into office. They are not that stupid to think that more Republicans are going to help matters.

Ignore the polls and go with your gut. Listen to the anecdotal evidence and read between the lines. This is not going to go well for the Repukes.
