George Will just equated Path to 9/11 to Michael Moores F9/11
Edited on Sun Sep-10-06 09:44 AM by spanone
This man is so full of shit. Saying Democrats have selective outrage. F911 played in movie theatres George, not on ABC television on our airwaves with the fucking president interrupting the movie to give a wartime speech. Even an ass like George Will should see this difference, you would think. But the blinding light of politics is harsh.

6. As I recall, didn't Disney refuse to distribute F911..
.. because Michael Eisner didn't think Disney should get involved in politics?

How the worm has turned...

4. Well Disney/ABC said they would not air F 9-11 because they did not want
to influence an election. They did not have anything at all to say about whether the documentary was truthful or not, we all now it is, just that only a month before an election would be harmful. Hypocrites to the nth degree

5. That's a freeper talking point.
They're trying to make this a free speech issue, which it isn't.

It's an issue of a network providing free campaign propaganda
and advertising for one political party, with no rebuttal, and
no balance or fairness.

That should be completely illegal.

Now, if Disney wanted to show The Path to 911 at theatres where
people have to pay to see it... as MM did with F911... I would have
no objection except that all parts that are libellous be removed to
avoid lawsuits. The company would either profit or lose money,
and people could decide whether to watch it or not without having
to worry about boycotting an entire network or erasing all the timing
on their video recording devices.

7. Totally shit. Moore's thing used REAL FACTS (not made up stuff).
They wanted to dispute it, but since the stuff was CAUGHT ON TAPE WITH THE REAL *ACTORS* they couldn't.

Republicans completely SUCK.

and his minions are the actors.

8. F911 showed the real culprits in the midst of their culprit-izing
So, is George Will trying to say that Bush sitting like a moron for several minutes after being told the country was under attack was completely made up and never happened?

11. PT911=Actors; F911= No Actors=Real People Interviewed=Documentary
not fictionalized b.s.

Moore may have taken some license with interpretation of what his interviewees said, but it was not a fictionalized "dramatization" with made up scenes using actors.

...he didn't say his movie was based on the 9/11 Commission Report.

13. Didn't see the show; did anyone *challenge* him?

Usually the ABC panels are stacked to the right anyway.

There has been a *palpable* move to the right by that News department and that network.

Examples:
1. replacing Barbara Walters w. RW ideologue John Stossel on 20/20;

2. replacing Koppell's legit news analysis on Nightline with superficial, trivial nonsense;

3. evermore rightward tilt of the talking head shows.

The DEMS should have been screaming about this all along, but didn't.

I think we can all agree now that that was a MISTAKE. Ignoring the bias just encourages 'em.

Now look what we have.

16. People Were Willing to PAY to See Farenheight 911
F911 was released in movie theaters. People had to pay to see it.
We did, in numbers that broke every record for that category.

Path to 911 is being run on ABC for free, with no advertisers
(probably because no advertisers wanted to face the BOYCOTT).
Why is Disney/ABC doing this? They're not making any money
from it, $40 million in production costs plus 2 full nights of
September prime time, what's that worth? Half a BILLION?
Pretty nice present for the GOP. Don't we have laws against
that sort of thing?

17. Don't get caught up in that. Its a trap. That's not the biggest difference
the biggest problem is that these two can't even be compared.

Michael Moore's was a repeatedly factchecked documentary. Meanwhile, Path to 9/11 promises to be a highly fictionalized load of BS.

19. George Will is a fascist boot licker
Fahrenheit 9/11 was so effective because Moore used the repugs' own words against them. He used actual video of actual events. He didn't need to hire actors to make shit up like GOP-Disney. George Will and all the other apologists can go fuck themselves.

'Nuff said.

ABC is dead to me.

Off topic: George Swill has always reminded me of my 5th grade science teacher. He was the most hated man there and used to punish the more lively students in his class by erasing the chalkboard with their noses.

RNC Launches “Dem Facts” Website In Response To Democrat Attacks On The Phase II Intel Report

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The RNC today announced the launch of a new website in response to Democrat attacks on the Senate Intelligence Committee’s “Phase II” report. The website, www.demfacts.com, highlights Democrat leaders’ hypocrisy by juxtaposing their pre-war intelligence statements to their current attacks.

The website includes video of Democrat leaders from “then” and “now” as well as additional research on the Democrats’ hypocrisy on pre-war intelligence.

24. You and I make think that's baloney, but I get the point
Frankly, I don't think there's a lot to be outraged over Fahrenheit 9/11, but Mr. Will has a different opinion. He thinks it distorted facts, and he thinks Path distorts the facts.

And he has the honesty to say so. On ABC television, no less.

Will has usually been the kind of conservative to whom I can listen. While I disagree with him on most things, I find his critiques are usually fair and thoughtful. He often gives me something to think about. He does not deserve to be tarred with the same brush as Rush Limbaugh or Ann Coulter.

27. Thanks To Raygun
We no longer have equal time restrictions that might help prevent such garbage. So welcome to the real world of deregulation.

Of course George Will knows the difference between the public airwaves and pay per view mediums used by F911 and Reagans. What is worse, nobody bothered to challenge Will on his bogus point.

Just add this $40 million to the advantage in advertising the Republicans already have. With Republicans it is all about winning and nothing about fairness, truth or even moving America forward. Fear is the last weapon in their arsenal so fear it is.
