11. We're all linked together now...
:tinfoilhat:

Haha...this morning I was called a paranoid delusional conspiracy theorist choosing to live a life of fear due to...believing the connections of the BFEE as put for by such crazy sources as Reuters, AP, WP, NYT, etc.

It was pretty amusing.

15. The one thing I wanted to wear to our protest
was a tin foil hat. I got the hat and then discovered I had no tin foil. I think I will go get some tomorrow and wear my hat to our Sunday protest :) :tinfoilhat:

I think it'd be pretty cool if I covered my cowboy hat in tinfoil for whatever protest I attend next against the Shrub.

8. How pathetic that they had to use CHILDREN to counter the protest
But that's the GOP way--shove the fresh-faced young out on the front lines.

14. I talked to some of those children
Their parents brought them. How stupid was that? Yes, let's take the kids down to see the crazy hippie protesters yelling at the president.

One parent was wearing a t-shirt that said "Freedom Isn't Free". We told her no it's not, it costs about a billion dollars a week and 2666 American military lives.

Her little 8 year old boy told my friend he wanted to be a Marine and fight in the war. So my friend gave him a card with the number for the GI Bill of Rights hotline. She told him he would need it. A few minutes later, he came back and gave the card back to her, because his mom told him not to read it. Yep, in that family freedom ain't free. It doesn't exist at all.

20. Ya know what really sucks about that line
Edited on Sun Sep-10-06 02:06 AM by The Traveler
It is so true. Freedom isn't free. Sometimes, ya gotta fight for it.

But there are other costs, and to the fundies and right wingers that price is unbearable. Freedom requires tolerance. For example, if people are not free to marry the one they love then in what sense can they be said to be free? If a Wiccan veteran's widow is not free to have the symbol of her husband's faith cut into his marker, in what sense has she been granted freedom of religion?

To be free, one must be willing to allow others to be free, even those whose tastes, beliefs, sexual preferences, and so forth are at variance with one's own. The right winger can't hack that. It is a matter of insufficient maturity.

Oh, and freedom is seldom safe. It requires a willingnes to take certain risks. I believe the increment of safety provided by the mechanisms of totalitarianism is not worth the threat to liberty presented by those mechanisms. The right winger's advocacy of those methods is a form of moral cowardice, except in those cases where the professed concern for national security merely serves to conceal the intention to establish tyranny.

"Freedom is not free." True words, indeed. But I doubt the neo-cons want their children to think about the full implications over much.

Thanks for speaking out. **Edited** Pardon the various typos. :)

33. I didn't think she would put me in her article
because I was kind of a bitch. She asked me why I was there and I said "you're kidding, right?" when I wanted to say "Why the f*** do you think I am here?" So then she asked what I would tell the prez if I could talk to him and I said "Send the twins to Iraq!"
