Democratic Party = Syracuse football team
Edited on Sat Sep-09-06 06:51 PM by Ignacio Upton
(For Hawkeye fans on here, I mean no disrespect, but this comparison is from my perspective.)

I was just at the Syracuse-Iowa game at the Carrier Dome, and the way in which the Syracuse team has played feels like a depressing allegory of how Democrats are doing right now.
Like the Democrats over the past few years, Syracuse has been in a terrible slump (especially with their dismal 1-10 season last year), losing one game after another last season, and getting off to a terrible start this year.
Today, I genuinely thought that they would beat the Hawkeyes, but they FUCKED UP major opportunities to do so. The team's defense was great this game, as they caught interception after interception during the regular game. But then came overtime, when the score was 10-10. They both got field goals in the first OT, making it 13-13, but when it came down to the 2nd OT, the Hawkeyes got a touchdown, and the Orange responded with...TEN MISSED OPPORTUNITIES WITHIN TEN YARDS OF THE END-ZONE! Their performance at the end was so mindnumbingly depressing, as they were repeatedly within 10 yards of getting a second TD and tying the game again. Yet they fucked up each time on plays that high school-level teams could have done.
Their piss-poor performance at the end-zone reminds me of the flaws in our party right now: like Syracuse's football team, we're rebuilding and making progress (their defense was phomenal, as has been our momentum on the netroots and our ability to finally close funraising gaps with groups like the RSCC and NRCC) unfortunately, both the Dems and the Orange CAN'T CLOSE WHEN IT COUNTS. The teams ineptness reminds me of the lack of response of our party to the barrage of GOP attacks and smears. It's like there is some invisible wall keeping us from actually attaining our goal, even if we're so freakin' close! Both this party and the Syracuse team need to learn how to close the deal when it counts, and not dawdle and blow opportunities!

1. Well, interesting analogy
But in the end, GO HAWKS! Sorry, Im a lifelong Iowan. And another perspective is that the Iowa defense got tough when they needed to, sorta like the Dems have to this year.

4. I guess it's all relative
As an SU student and fan, I see it more from my perspective. But congrats anyway. Their defense was good, but Syracuse's offense blew it when they had numerous opportunities. I see the team's offense as being like Bob Shrum and all those other consultants who won't get tough on the GOP.

2. Now that's downright Freudian
Sounds like the Syracuse team's death instinct had a 'rasslin match with its life instinct and kicked ass. The whole team should see a shrink... maybe that's what the Dems need?

3. egg Zac Lee
I watched the game in Columbus, OH

The orange were moving the ball passing and yet wanted to "gut it out" and run it in .....
game over.

I hope the dems understand that we are dealing w/ the devil and we have to punch him in the
teeth, break his kneecaps, and then hog tie 'em .... they would do it to us in a heartbeat.

fire em up Bucks!
