Top 5 Reasons Disney Will Be Banned from Our Home
Top 5 Reasons Disney Will Be Banned from Our Home

5. Teaching children that the ends justifies the means.
Don't get me wrong, I'd be thrilled to have my children grow up to be billionaire business titans! But not at any cost. If becoming a billionaire business titan would mean compromising their values, lying, cheating, hurting others to achieve their own goals, selfishness, hubris, or any of the other characteristics I've seen displayed far too often in Washington and corporations like Disney these days, I'd rather have them be good, decent "normal" folks. For Disney, the ends would appear to be influencing elections and the means would appear to be anything they need to do in order to achieve their desired ends. The lessons Disney has to teach are not lessons I want my children learning.

4. Teaching children that as long as one has enough money and connections, one can do anything one pleases.
This goes back to my little billionaire business titans. Say they do achieve that goal -- does that give them the right to do anything they bloody well want at that point? Does being a billionaire give them the right to ignore doing what is right in favor of doing what is wrong, at any cost? No, and the Disney lesson is not a lesson I want my children to learn.

3. Teaching children that corporations and the American government are inextricable.
I love my country, but I do not love the fact that currently the American government is run by corporate America. Disney is aiding and abetting a criminal administration and our current administration is doing the bidding of Disney and other monolith corporations. I want my children to learn that they have a voice, that what they have to say in our republic matters. While a corporatocracy is our current reality, it was not always the case and does not always need to be the case. I want my children to know the difference and to fight for the rights of American citizens, not American corporations.

2. Teaching children that one is not accountable for one's actions.
I have no doubt that President Clinton made mistakes that contributed to 9/11, as did administrations before him. If nothing else, our foreign policies going back decades are responsible. BUT the fact is that Clinton and his administration tried to warn the Bush administration about Bin Laden & al Qaeda and the Bush administration wasn't interested. All they wanted to know about was Iraq. The FACT is that Bush and his administration didn't want to hear from those in his administration who did know something about those who really did want to attack us -- they fired or ignored those people. The FACT is that they ignored a briefing just days before the attack and did absolutely nothing to thwart what was clearly going to happen. The FACT is that 9/11 is a direct result of Bush administration incompetence and downright deceit. I do not want my children to learn that blaming one's actions on another person is okay, particularly when those actions have dire consequences. I want my children to learn to be upright people who will take responsibility for their actions.

And the number one reason:

1. Teaching children that lying is okay.
I have news for the Bush family (all of them), Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice, Ashcroft, Gonzales, Frist, Hastert, and a host of other politicians currently in power -- it's going to come as a shock, so sit down: lying is not okay! What the hell don't any of you get about that? Lying is not okay! Disney, ABC, what the hell don't you get about that? LYING IS NOT OKAY! Damn, my children get it -- why don't you

3. I wish!

Believe me, the Republican party IS banned in our house. Well, we still have a few "normal" Republican friends...the ones who are as horrified as we are. And we lost some Republican friends....they aren't missed. Kool-Aid drinking Republicans ARE banned though. (I can deal with them elsewhere....NOT in our sanctuary!) And the MSM is discussed and dissected at the dinner table (along with who is dating whom, why "best friends" may have gossiped about you, why going to school with a giant hole in the ass of your jeans isn't okay :P ) I sooooooooooo wish I could ban the American gov't from our home right now....sadly, with all of our campaigning and protesting, they're probably listening to every inane phone conversation on our phone lines.

5. You sound like a very good mom, one who takes bad situations &
turns them into "teachable moments". I will not be patronizing Disney exactly for the reasons you put forth, especially that it "teaches children that lying is okay." Considering the sacrifices that our forefathers & mothers have made in pursuit of Democracy, this is very little sacrifice on my part.

A very warm welcome to you from one mom to another.

7. a 16 pound fencepost hammer...
.. can work miracles on a television. It improves the Disney films immensely.

If you don't have a 16 pound hammer, you can always take your television to
a highland games, Scot's hold them all over the world, and there, they throw
16 pound fencepost hammers. Just set the TV out in the field, and ask some
guy in a kilt to take his best shot.

:-) bouf

OR at least take the satellite dish and the cable box to the hammer...
