Widowed Husband Of Disney Exec Killed 9/11 Writes To ABC-DO NOT AIR FILM
Widowed Husband Of Former Disney Records Exec Killed On 9/11 Writes To ABC's Iger: I "Urge You Not To Air This Film"
By Greg Sargent

John Beug, the widowed husband of Carolyn Beug, a former vice president at Walt Disney Records who was on the plane that slammed into 1 World Trade Center, has written a letter to ABC chief Bob Iger pleading with him not to run the film. A source provided us with a copy of the letter.

It reads, in part: "I am writing to express my concern and deep reservations about this film and to ask you, out of respect for the victims of 9/11 and their families, not to air it...I strongly and respectfully urge you not to air this film."

Reached by phone, Mr. Beug confirmed the letter was his and verified its accuracy. "I think it's unfortunate that people are sensationalizing the story for whatever reason they're doing it," Mr. Beug said. "It shouldn't be politicized." Soon after her death, Carolyn Beug was described by U.S.A. Today as a "former Walt Disney Records executive" who "won acclaim for her work on the Pocahontas film soundtrack."

ABC has said that judgments of the film are premature. "No one has seen the final version of the film, because the editing … is not yet complete, so criticisms of film's specifics are premature and irresponsible," a recent ABC statement said.

The full text of the letter follows after the jump.

2. Thank you, Mr. Beug (and you, too, kpete)! I hope more people
personally connected to Disney and the tragedy speak out. We'll see if there's a shred of integrity in the company, though I'm not holding my breath.

3. Will they STILL air this turkey?
I gotta believe they will give in to common sense eventually.

4. Yes. Good news: They will take out the lies. Bad news (for ABC):
It will be a 15 minute Short film.

20. Movie Money
Most always the motive is money and more money, and to some extent I understand that goal.
This movie is out right propaganda the likes of a communist country and it places the blame on one political party. The rest of the film plays or feeds off of the fictional script.
I see the goal of the people behind this movie and how they could care less if there was a Disney Employee on one of the planes or even some in the World Trade Center.

5. My husband and I knew 5 people who died on 9/11! Not one family of theirs
supports this movie and are outraged that this movie was made and is going to be shown on the 5th anniversary of their loved ones deaths.

I'd love to see more of the survivors of the 9/11 and families of the dead, to say what they feel about this movie.

8. I am so sorry for your loss...
and the losses of your friends.

While I'm glad to hear that they are as upset as we are, I feel horrible that they are being put through this...it's unconscionable that Disney/ABC could be so callous in this matter.

10. Thanks for the kind words...this time of year is very painful for us
and is made worse each year through the exploitation this administration does by invoking the "memory of 9/11" for its purposes.

I look at what has happened to our country over the last 5 years and I cannot believe it. I look at the War on Iraq and all the dead people of Iraq and US Soldiers all based on a lie around 9/11. Now this piece of propaganda only 2 months before a critical election and on the 5th anniversary of this tragedy and it makes me sick to my stomach.

Its amazing to think that there are all these people in this country who didn't live in NY, didn't lose someone they know and scream about terror and 9/11 and would even dare to call my husband and I unpatriotic because we have never supported the War and Occupation on Iraq. And yet we lost not one, but FIVE people we knew from growing up back East and going to College and Business School.

I plan on Monday to take a hike near the beach here on the Coast by Bolinas. I plan to light a candle at church for them in their memories. I plan to pray for our country that seems to have lost its soul and its ability to see through the fog.

Disney Corporation is another shining example of Corporatism in America that has grown powerful and has a lot of money and a lot of ways to "reach the homes and minds of people in America" - especially children through its Disney properties. Of course, it may be hard for anyone to imagine "Disney" being an evil corporation, but in their releasing and allowing this propaganda piece filled with lies to be broadcast on the 5th Anniversary is unforgiveable and disgusting.

:hi:

11. Pachamama--
you and your friends will be in my thoughts tomorrow, as you go to the beach and light your candle, in memory of those you lost.

I recall the Simpson's quite a few years ago lampooning Disneyland as a park which primarily exists to sell their products and put over their personal agenda. At the time I laughed and saw some truth and humour in it. But I honestly didn't think a great deal about it.

Over the years, slowly but surely I've seen little things here and there in relation to the park, that allowed me to "wake up" and see this was not a company I should give my money to. I got so angry about it a few years ago, I refused to renew my pass and wrote letters of protest to the company. Eventually, they did something that allowed me to forgive them and I bought back into the machine. :eyes: Shame on me.

I should be thankful that at least I saw those ugly aspects of them before now--if I hadn't, this all would have been far more shocking and devastating. I know people that have grown up idolizing Disney and all that it stood for, they are having a very hard time with this. (Some don't realize there are families that RAISE their kids on Disney). Yes, they are boycotting the company but having a tough time. :(

13. The OP brings tears to my eyes.
The victims of that day deserve so much more, deserve so much better. To think that one of their own was killed that day and then they turn around and do this? It's beyond what I thought even they were capable of!

I'm so so sorry for your loss.

6. Plenty of critics have reviewed it and the consensus is that it stinks.
I would think Disney and ABC would be HAPPY to have an excuse to pull it after the horrid reviews it is getting.

12. Entertainment Weekly gave it a D+
and that was about the kindest review that I read. Apparently it is cumbersome and boring and one of the reviewers said, "I thought that the longest day in my life was when, as a kid, I had to wait in the car for my mother to finish her grocery shopping, until I saw this mini-series."

Apparently a huge boring stinko.

15. Wow--I wonder what the + was for...
that's pretty generous, as opposed to a straight D.

His description was pretty funny though. Didn't think anything about this would be funny. It's not but his review is.

Quote:"I thought that the longest day in my life was when, as a kid, I had to wait in the car for my mother to finish her grocery shopping, until I saw this mini-series."

17. By now, it would serve the Democratic cause if it ran
Otherwise, the spin will be that Dems bullied a "liberal" network into "censoring" a "moderate" perspective on 9/11.
