and he says he can do it if he keeps control of congress. This should be the one message we carry in this election.

If not, prepare to care for your parents in their old age and to burden your kids in yours.

2. If I had a choice between the Social Security Scam...
...and his interest in a "National Sales Tax" (also called "The Fair Tax"), I'd vote for the Social Security Scam in a heartbeat.

Why?

Because it won't happen. I'd love to see him spin his lame duck wheels for another two years on this.

The National Sales Tax thing, on the other hand, has a lot of people fooled. Just the fact that Neal Boortz jumped on the bandwagon ought to offer a clue of what's going on here.

Read Nancy Pelosi's take on it:

:patriot:

"You know, I'm not exactly sure how big the national sales tax is going to have to be, but it's the kind of interesting idea that we ought to explore seriously," Bush said, according to a Reuters report.

4. Just remind all of the rich people...
that all the money they have in the bank that they have already paid tax on will be taxed AGAIN when they spend it.

That should be enough to deflate Bush's base.

3. I have an idea. Let's impeach him for treason and then
Edited on Sat Sep-09-06 03:25 PM by Cleita
send him into exile without Social Security after we garnishee his fortune to pay back all the money he stole out of our surplus for his friends. Let Laura, Jenna and Barbara get jobs to support the old man.

5. All politics is local
If handled right - even if the GOP retains Congress - this is a non-starter. But if we Dems handle this right this could pull more "undecideds" over to our side. Consider--
  1. Most "Boomers" - especially those of us in the "Bottom 98%" do not have an adequate "retirement estate" to carry us over either (1) sans Social Security or (2) sans our employer funded "defined benefits" ERISA plan.
  2. The good old employer funded ERISA "defined benefits" plan is on the Endangered Species list.
  3. That good old employer funded plan is "dischargeable" in the case of the employer's Chapter XI or absolute bankruptcy.
  4. The FPBGC only pays a few cents on the dollar when an employer plan folds.
  5. Employer funded "MediGap" insurance is history.
  6. "Active Oldsters" are the backbone of grass roots political organizations and "one on one" lobbying.

6. Well that worked for him so well last time the subject came up
When he was on his first beat the drum about Social Security tour in early 2005, his poll numbers started sagging, nobody was supporting "The Plan" and it is at that point he became a lame duck President. He can trot this horse out again if he likes to try and distract the media from the debacle that is the rest of his administration, but he just will end up looking silly in doing so.

7. Plus all fed. parks, lands. and anything people want
I think the best I ever heard was a man on the House floor talking about getting rid of the weather dept. as they could get their weather off the TV like every one else. It was years ago when they were going to save money. I am trying to recall his name which I did not think I would ever forget. He was a party man and a d---- car name is all I can think of. Mid-west. It was really funny. I thought he was making a joke as I sat and heard all this. For sure we will be A THIRD WORLD COUNTRY IF bUSH GETS HIS WAY.

8. Can't get away with it...
At least I don't think he can, unless of course they know that all of the voting is so rigged that it doesn't matter what they do. His last attempt was a fiasco, so hopefully it'll go the same way for the next two years. All of the GOPers are seriously hampered at this point, so few are going to be willing to risk their asses on this one.
