Path to 911 vs Press for Truth
Edited on Sat Sep-09-06 12:20 PM by whereismyparty
Well fellow DU'ers, I gotta say I'm a little disappointed. I'm relatively new to DU, so maybe I just don't get it yet, but something BIG has happened, and it has gotten barely any notice here on DU.The reason: because of Path to 911.

911: Press For Truth (www.911pressfortruth.com) was released this week and I expected it to be THE TALK. At the same time, ABC is pulling this crapola with Path to 911. Unfortunately, Path is getting NONSTOP (albeit bad) coverage while Truth is barely getting noticed -- the blogs, the talk shows, the politicians -- are all talkin' about a movie filled with a pack of lies. Now, please understand, I totally understand why. It's David vs Goliath. Of course Path is a dangerous precedent funded by RW wackos with an agenda that shouldn't be ignored. I get it.

...BUT!...

Is there ANY WAY that the wonderful activists on the blogs and talk shows and in the editorials, could maybe...just maybe...compare the lies of Path to 911 to the truth exposed in Press For Truth? Good God! Do people even realize how hard the Family Steering Committee and The Jersey Girls have worked toward understanding the TRUE path to 911? This is an opportunity folks! Don't we all owe them their moment? Can't we just tie them into the debate as a juxtaposition to the Path movie whenever we are embroiled in this debate?

Offer an alternative people! I know! I know! Of course ABC will not air Press for Truth after pulling Path to 911 (which I think ABC will ultimately be forced to do--and if they don't, boy! has it gotten tons of free advertising!) Look, even if they DO air the crap they've made, then use it!!!Scream even louder for them to air Press for Truth as "the other viewpoint -- the real one!"

If you would scream for Truth, scream for the families, as loud as you have screamed against Path, DEMAND TRUTH be shown as the TRUE PATH TO 911, people would hear it! Go to it people, TIE PRESS FOR TRUTH INTO THE DEBATE!!! USE THIS OPPORTUNITY!!! Let's give the RIGHT movie some free advertising as well!!!

There. That's my first rant. Please K&R!!!!

Ich lebte zwolf Jahren in Deutschland. In Berlin sogar.

Kicken is a German word used for playing soccer.

It's probably something like Kindergarten, invaded our language

German is more difficult to learn than English, I would definitely say.

I'd like your take on American media in comparison to German media.
It has to look like a circus to watch some of the talking heads.
And they are always focusing on John Mark Karr and the girl from Aruba stories.

20. I watched the trailer
and the Ashcroft thing with his decision to stop flying commercial aircraft is really incriminating.
I knew it from press reports, but haven't seen Dan Rather talk about it

I know Paul Thompson's timeline, It was very helpful for other researchers to find that there were so many war games going on on 911.

What is the main approach of the movie?
Does he ask questions and shows how the investigation has been obstructed and families paid not to file a law suit?
Or does he points his finger at the private CIA and Pakistani ISI?

22. A synopsis
A synopsis From the 911: Press For Truth website:

"Following the attacks of September 11th, a small group of grieving families waged a tenacious battle against those who sought to bury the truth about the event—including, to their amazement, President Bush. In ‘9/11 PRESS FOR TRUTH’, six of them, including three of the famous “Jersey Girls”, tell for the first time the powerful story of how they took on the greatest powers in Washington—and won!—compelling an investigation, only to subsequently watch the 9/11 Commission fail in answering most of their questions.

Adapting Paul Thompson’s definitive Complete 9/11 Timeline (published by HarperCollins as ‘The Terror Timeline’), the filmmakers collaborate with documentary veterans Globalvision (‘WMD: Weapons of Mass Deception’, ‘Beyond JFK’) to stitch together rare overlooked news clips, buried stories, and government press conferences, revealing a pattern of official lies, deception and spin. As a result, a very different picture of 9/11 emerges, one that raises new and more pressing questions.

What actions were taken by top government officials who received dozens of specific warnings before the attack? Was Osama Bin Laden and his top al Qaeda leadership allowed to escape U.S. forces in Afghanistan? And what has been the reason for the deliberate obscuring of evidence for state sponsorship? Perhaps the most important one of all: Why, five years later, are so many of the families’ questions still unanswered?"

31. the main approach is
that we tell a story first and formost of a tragedy and how no matter what the families did, no one would meet with them or tell them what happened...in their own words... so they take on Washington and force the White House to form an investigative Committee, which they would guide with their questions. What emerges is that at best, the Bush administration was caught with its pants down on 911 and that there were so many warnings, that at best part of the cover up was to cover their incompetence. but we don't say that in the film... no one does, we don't have to. we spent years collecting footage and FOIAing footage... and if you watch closely, you will see why perhaps Dan Rather was targeted... what emerges is damning, because what emerges involves some strange Pakistani goings on that people do not seem to know about and what else emerges is, in their own words, a damning picture of the administration. there are no actors here and all sourced material is mainstream... WaPo's editor is interviewed in the film, as are many other MSM folks, including Michael Isikoff. this is no small picture, despite its small budget. and a Lucus films producer stepped into help us at the end when we ran out of money and needed to edited, providing studio time in CA for narration and editing.

best, la

in how much it cost to make Press For Truth as opposed to Path to 911 must be enormous. Path cost 40M. I think we should help the little, honest guy out here and promote Press For Truth WHILE fighting against Path to 911.

11. My wife and I watched "Press for Truth" last night
She had ordered the DVD and it arrived yesterday in the mail. It is a superb film. I'm not going to review it here, other than to say that it must be seen. It deals only with documented fact, and avoids speculation. It builds a damning case for foreknowledge by the administration, while avoiding the more controversial theories about that day. Therefore, it cannot be dismissed as "conspiracy theory".

Thanks, whereismyparty, for drawing much-needed attention to this film.

12. Screening report/review (by Carol Brouillet) here:
http://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2006/09/08/18307174.php

The film centers on the victim’s families, those who met, organized and lobbied for an investigation into 9/11 to get their questions answered, and to prevent future 9/11’s from happening, as one mother said, “to make the world safer for my children.” They went through an amazing experience, dealing with government bureaucracy and with the media. In order to get the media on their side, they had to give the media something- share their very personal grief. The power of the press is enormous, and for awhile they wielded some of that power and won a significant battle- to get a Commission, despite opposition from the White House. However, the 9/11 Commission completely failed them, failed to ask and answer the majority of their questions. Some very powerful evidence and information did come out of the hearings, but never made it into the official report.

One issue that they tried to raise in the media, not successfully, was that the director of the 9/11 Commission, was part of the Bush National Security transition team, a close friend of Condoleezza Rice, who co-authored a book with her; Zelikow also wrote the “Pre-Emptive War Doctrine.” He was a Bush insider directing the staff to investigate some areas and ignore other areas completely. The families demanded his resignation and lost the battle and most Americans didn’t hear about it.

<snip>

Laced throughout the film are the official statements of Ari Fleischer, Dick Cheney, Condoleezza Rice, George Bush, which are shown to be lies or misleading or damning when fully understood.

Patty Casazza, one of the Jersey girls, says, very movingly, in the film “They lied. They all lied. Whether consciously or unconsciously, and we need to know why.” My favorite character in the film is Bob McIlvaine who lost his son in the attacks and describes his child who had a sign up in his room that said “Knowledge is Power.” He continues to fight for truth in tribute to his son.

Indeed the message of the film is more than simply getting out some of the facts about 9/11. The film stresses how important media is, how it can mobilize people to support horrendous policy or can be used to demand accountability. The public plays a huge role in electing, tolerating, changing public policy. It urges us all to be more responsible and more active in raising questions, demanding answers, and demanding accountability.

15. Lee Hamilton

"......former Congressman Lee Hamilton, chairman of the House select committee investigating the Iran-contra affair, was shown ample evidence against Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush, but he did not probe their wrongdoing. Why did Hamilton choose not to investigate? In a late 1980s interview aired on PBS 'Frontline,' Hamilton said that he did not think it would have been 'good for the country' to put the public through another impeachment trial. In Lee Hamilton's view, it was better to keep the public in the dark than to bring to light another Watergate, with all the implied ramifications. When Hamilton was chairman of the House committee investigating Iran-contra, he took the word of senior Reagan administration officials when they claimed Bush and Reagan were 'out of the loop.' Independent counsel Lawrence Walsh and White House records later proved that Reagan and Bush had been very much in the loop. If Hamilton had looked into the matter instead of accepting the Reagan administration's word, the congressional investigation would have shown the public the truth. Hamilton later said he should not have believed the Reagan officials. However, today, George W. Bush is considering appointing Hamilton UN ambassador."

fwiw - imho, the company one keeps can be quite telling

who would be comfortable around the likes of Kissinger, James Schlesinger, Conrad Black, Joe Lieberman, McCain, Leslie Gelb, Maurice "AIG" Greenberg and son Evan, Brent Scowcroft, Chris Cox, Pete "Blackstone Group" Peterson, Sen. Pat Roberts, et al?

I would think you have to have something in common (my guess it's using a corporatist foreign policy for profiteering/pro-business before people)

What a waste all this energy expended against a pack of lies only slightly worse than the 9/11 Cover-up itself, which everyone recognizes as a lie anyway, and which ABC is going to show no matter what...

Meanwhile, the same resources could have demanded the broadcast of this documentary, which would spin everything back around.

36. Press for Truth is excellent IMO. What should be particularly persuasive
to a mainstream audience and is damming, to the government and the media, is its use of information contained in corporate media reports. An absorbing and compelling film.

Kudos to all those involved in the making of this film. That includes two DUer's, Paul Thompson and Larisa Alexandrovna.
