Chicago Sun Times: Zero Stars
Some choice words from television critic Doug Elfman:

I once sat in a car forever waiting for my mom to come out of a grocery store. I thought that was the definition of "interminable." I had no idea "The Path to 9/11" was in my future.

<snip>

Controversy could boost viewership, except "Path" is the dullest, worst-shot TV movie since ABC's disastrous "Ten Commandments" remake. It substitutes shaky handheld cameras and dumb dialogue for craftsmanship. It could not be more amateurish or poorly constructed unless someone had forgotten to light the sets.

An appalling secondary concern is the tone makes almost every pre-9/11 American look like a fool.

<snip>

Excuse us all, writer Cyrus Nowrasteh and director David L. Cunningham, for not acting like Hitler Youth in the glory days before ordinary Americans knew commercial planes could be turned into missiles.

8. ROFLOL
Ironic isn't it. Earlier today I posted my concerns that ordinary people, who are too busy or too lacking in political savvy to know any better, would have a delusional picture of what really happened.

And now I am somewhat comforted by the fact that these are the same people who won't sit through much of a program that is poorly produced and executed (they're way too spoiled by production values of American Idol or CSI, even if they are not consciously aware of the specific differences).

Grab your remote-FOOTBALL season is ON!

9. TV Guide gave it RAVE Reviews
I wish I could find it online. I happened to find it in their magazine at the Dr.'s office yesterday. They even had the "based on the 9/11 commission report" in there!! :grr:

14. What a fuckwad!
:puke:

<snip>

I always expect that projects like this will compress actual events and characters, with the ensuing danger of distorting the facts (which is apparently most glaring in a scene involving Sandy Berger calling off a strike against Osama bin Laden). I still believe it was a gutsy call for a network to devote the resources to such an ambitious and epic project. Given the kind of crud the networks call "movies" nowadays (when they even bother to make them), I found this a laudable attempt, even if flawed, at doing something serious and meaningful, especially in light of the ferocity of the current political landscape, where everything's a minefield. Given the firestorm ABC is getting over this, I imagine it will be a long time before another network tries anything of this nature, and that seems to me a shame.

The criticisms by those who have yet to see the movie are not surprising, and I imagine given their own preconceived biases (I tried to put mine aside, and am as amused as I am horrified to open e-mails accusing me of being a right-wing tool), their opinions probably won't be swayed by actually watching the movie. If I somehow had been psychic enough to know the controversy the film would stir up before its release, I would have tried to reflect that in my review. But I couldn't, so I didn't.

thank you for the link!
