Greg Palast was charged with violating national security
along with his producer yesterday. Sorry, no link. He announced this last night at the opening event for Fightin' Bobfest in Madison WI (the evening was devoted to media reform). Palast showed video clips from his investigative reporting into Hurricane Katrina which he just did recently. Apparently digging for the truth about the corporation which was supposed to have a disaster plan for evacuation of a major US city but didn't is an intrusion on national security or something like that.

To show a clip of a black man from NO saying "they just wanted all the poor blacks gone" is just traitorous.

And digging for the truth about stolen elections, well that just means you're a nut.

1. The White House ought to be charged with that, actually, but
:wtf: does Katrina and the Repiglicans efforts at ethnic cleansing down there have to do with national security?

bu$hit.

2. Palast, Pascarella Face Homeland Security Charges
Yes, the rumor’s true. Greg Palast is facing a criminal complaint from the Department of Homeland Security stemming from his filming the Hurricane Katrina investigation for Link TV and Democracy Now. The film’s producer, Matt Pascarella, is also facing the legal wrath of Big Brother.

It appears the complaint is about filming a sensitive national security site owned by Exxon petroleum. It seems that photographing major Bush donors is now a federal offense.

Reached at an undisclosed location, Palast says, “Let’s not get over-excited. They haven’t measured us for our orange suits yet.”

During questioning by Homeland Security, Palast asked, “Hey, aren’t you supposed to be looking for Osama? Or for guys with exploding shoes? … We’re journalists.” At Palast’s request, Homeland Security confirmed that Louisiana is, indeed, still part of the USA but did not respond when asked if the First Amendment applies there.

6. thanks
He seemed in good spirits last night and was really funny. I think these are the natural consequences for journalists trying to find and tell the truth about anything right now.

4. How are we going to help this man?
We've raised holy hell with ABC and had results. What can we do to shame them for both the cause (the truth) and the audacity of charging Greg?

:(

5. Boycott GOP contributors.
The Republican party appears weak and vulnerable at the cash registers of those companies that give money to the Republican party.
