OMG!: Here is how my old home is celebrating 9/11
Edited on Sat Sep-09-06 07:34 AM by JCMach1
...The city of Palatka also dedicates a monument at 4 p.m. at City Hall.

“It’s a tribute to the private citizens, police and firefighters who were involved and lost their lives in the attacks on Sept. 11 five years ago,” Mary Murphy of the city of Palatka said. “It’s a black granite monument. The caption says ‘Never Forget,’ and it’s got images etched on the surface.”

The images on the monument are of the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, the U.S. flag being raised on the rubble at Ground Zero and an eagle shedding a tear... http://palatkadailynews.com/articles/2006/09/09/news/news03.txt

A farkin' crying eagle

How is your patch of the woods celebrating?

3. That "eagle shedding a tear..." can mean lots of things--like America's
loss of its mind, loss of its troops, its treasury, its honor......

6. Think that's bad? here in the backass town I currently live in
Edited on Sat Sep-09-06 07:56 AM by noahmijo
The other day I was engaged in a little debate from some local yahoo who was arguing that "they never caught the Islamics that carried out the first WTC" of course I schooled him a little on the Ramzi Yousef saga up to stamps in time like when Clinton was shaking down the pres of Pakistan to start cooperating or lose trade benefits.

In the end he says "Well you're a New Yorker so you're just a queer anyway why don't you go back to the east coast with all the other faggots?"

Said I gladly will when I can afford it I was dragged out here at elementary school age and forced to eek out a living in this jerkwater burg since then but first chance I get....

Yea this is how it is. The yahoo fundie assholes exploit the tragedy, but as far as the people who suffered in it or at least those who can lay a little claim to the location of it? Faggots bunch of faggots who got what they deserved for hating jesus.

And you can't convince me that every goddamn gop motherfucker who fakes tears when talking about 9/11 feels exactly the same way.

14. Well I'm not gay the woman I've been with for the last 6 years can attest
to that. In fact our relationship is living proof that a relationship can be healthy and fruitful so long as it's riding on common sense-regardless of whether it's same sex or not.

Notice it's the religious yahoos with the 4 ex-wives typically. But yet they're gonna teach me about "protecting marriage" by telling me how to vote when it comes to "the gay question"

Fuck em I say, I'll trust a gay person who has a steady relationship with someone of the same sex long before I listen to the idiocy of some no neck loser whose got an even number of women running around with his last name attached to theirs preceeded by a hyphen.

16. you don't have to be gay -- but for them gay is the same
as a ''liberal'', a ''progessive'', a ''socialist'', a ''democrat'', a ''union'' member.

they just called you the very worst name they can use in their world view -- a ''faggot''.

7. Here in NM? Maybe a few churches are doing something
but I haven't heard of anything in the city or state. I don't watch the nightly propaganda hour, so that's not unusual.

One church here trumpeted they got a piece of wreckage to use as their new bell tower. That was 3 years ago, does it count?

10. I work part time at a public library...
and got a message in the "company" email that all branches should fly their flags on half staff for "Patriot's Day" - I've never heard 9/11 referred to that way and found it rather...offensive.

15. The Fire Station...
around the corner from my house started flying the flag at half-mast yesterday morning (Friday). Honestly, I really have no problem with that. I do, however, have a problem with calling it Patriot Day. Interestingly enough, I've found * proclamations for Patriot Day every year, except this one. (I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong).

With it being an election year, and the people finally being awakened from their deep sleep, (Re: 9/11 has nothing to do with Iraq), many have figured out that remembering the deaths of thousands of people has nothing to do with patriotism. The winds are changing direction and I think the repukes knew there would be political fallout if they used the term Patriot Day to once again describe 9/11.

18. Flags
Salem, the capitol of Oregon is going to be displaying flags.

There will be one flag with all of the names of those who died on 9/11. That's fine and seems appropriate.

Then there will be a flag with just the names of the firefighters and police officers who died on 9/11. That's fine and seems appropriate.

Then there will be a field of flags, one for every soldier who has died in Iraq. :wtf:

I'm madder than hell at this horrible conflation of 9/11 and the war on Iraq. I heard about this on the news the other night, but the news station's website has nothing about it, and I have heard nothing since. I suspect that they are keeping it low key until they unveil this farce upon us.
