5. Indeed
With the freeps in near total control of main stream media we would have only snail mail and voice telephone for communications.
I didn't believe we could reproduce DU with BBS technology.
I'm pretty sure many of us would be either dead or on our way to what they will no doubt call a Jesus Camp.

9. Left the Jesus camp and not going back...no matter what
Since I'm ignorant of most technology, I'm hoping that when they finally get around to coralling most of what we think of as the internet, some smart group of people will figure a way around them and let a few of us string along. I know someone will know how to do it. Wish it were me as I'd get it started now. They'll be coming to tear down this uncontrolled form of communication soon....

7. Since 1971, the media have become corporate monoliths
which do almost nothing to serve the public interest. The gutsy Bob Woodward of the early 70s has turned into a whore for the the Bush regime. The great journalists of the old days (e.g., Cronkite, Murrow) are either retired or dead. Now we have useless twits like Couric and and a bunch of dumb young hairdos on CNN and the bloviating idiots of Fox News, and what passes for news is mostly celebrity gossip and sensational crimes involving rich white girls. In the old days we could sometimes find out the truth.

8. Nothing has changed. Just like Hitler #1--Dick Nixon who killed all
of the peaceful freedom fighters in Vietnam with his war of aggression in Vietnam and Cambodia. Or Hitler #2--Daddy Bush in his war for oil against the Religion of Peace. Now we have Hitler #3 who is trying to finish the job that Daddy started by attacking the peaceful people of Iraq and Afghanistan and maybe soon Iran.

It is up to our brothers and sisters around the world to stand up to the American Imperialism and aggression against the peaceful religion of Islam. We can do this by uniting in harmony around the world against guns, religious bigotry, violence, and military force.

It's not too late to live in peace in Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan. But we have to stop killing our brothers in Islam.

13. The largest and most important change is that now
we are killing the earth and all its inhabitants. It would be bad enough if we just killed off ourselves, but NOOOOOOOOO we have to kill everything. All the birds in the sky, all the fish in the oceans and all the animals of the lands. All in the name of money and power. Just how fucking stupid are we?

14. We weren't able to communicate instantly and globally in '71.
There were still two Germanies, we got space shuttles, the right moved so far right they make Nixon look liberal...it's actually a quite extensive list when you don't oversimplify it.
