I used to work for ABC. Who wants to throw rocks at me?
Ha, ha, ha. No, I really did work for those bastards. And I quit. I quit because I could see very clearly where the network, and the media in general, was going. They were becoming right-wing hacks. I was making good money whoring myself for them. I had a "bright future" in media, or so everyone told me. But I left. My decision to quit was very unpopular with everyone I knew, particularly my family. They thought I was crazy. That I was being young and irresponsible and that I was throwing my future away.
Today, I feel vindicated. Today ABC's lies are on display for the whole world to see. I may not have much money today, but I have my integrity, and that is worth more to me than any comfortable lifestyle they could have provided me. If only more people in the media thought that way, this country would be in much better shape. Then again, if more of them did think that way, maybe I'd still be there.

2. Hopefully the money will get better as you do uncompromising things.
If it's possible to have a little money and a lot of pride in what you're doing, I can totally understand doing it that way. Particularly with what I've heard about the production of shows at major networks since this ABC thing started... and I thought making laws in Congress was bad.

18. Heh, heh
I could tell you stories about how shows are made, and most likely you'd end up laughing your ass off at the absurdity of it. It is a testament to the unyielding creative spirit of human beings that anything creative at all ever ends up on TV after going through the production process.

27. I used to work at an ABC affiliate too....
I'm glad i got out of TV when I quit them then over 20 years ago and moved over to being an engineer. Was instantly worth more than even my boss was then, and now feel a lot better about being able to not have to work against my conscience!

Most of the main stream media can only follow their wallets.

11. The simple answer: a fellow by the name of George Washington
You may have seen him on those little slips of paper people keep in their wallets.

No really, there's no one individual calling the shots. ABC affiliates are owned by many different companies, many of which are right wing. My station was bought out by a company called Blue Stone, which was very right wing. The deciding factor in my decision to quit was when I sat down with the head of Blue Stone and he basically told me that "revenue was king," and how they were going to start waving the flag when the Iraq War started. I know for a fact that every one at our station was gone within one year after that purchase. Blue Stone got rid of anyone with a conscience and replaced them with flag waving, money grubbing automatons.

16. We need to DEBRIEF you
An organization like ABC must have a multitude of weak spots.
I would ask that every time you think of some window through which this enemy colossus might be attacked, that you discreetly message the person making the post that caused you to realize it.
And please relay no information that would point directly to yourself.
We'll need to re build television once the freeps are gone. Id Rather do it with experienced people.

19. The best way to attack them
is to do exactly what people are doing right now. Organizing, boycotting, raising hell. Believe me, networks hate it, and I mean REALLY hate it when they face organized opposition. The one exception to this is probably Fox News, which is basically a GOP propaganda machine that really isn't fooling anybody except for the real morons out there. But networks like ABC hate it. One person they can ignore, one million and they will take notice. Believe me, I saw organized opposition against some of our rival stations when they began airing a controversial ad. Within a week they pulled it. Trust me, it works. I guarantee you right now there are many people at ABC experiencing sleepless nights over this fiasco. If there wasn't so much money involved they would have pulled it already.

I work for an ABC affiliate now, and I can tell you no one here is happy about the miniseries. I can honestly count the number of Republicans here on two hands. I'm constantly trying to get anti-Republican stories on air sooner than most other affiliates. I got us to cover the George Allen macaca incident the next day, and Pat Robertson's call for Hugo Chavez's assassination as well. Hell, the executive producer called me at home after midnight on the Pat Robertson thing, wanting another source (they like to have at least three for internet originating stories). Quite a few of us take great joy in sticking it to them.

23. Congratulations for saving your soul--ABC has been a cesspool
for about ten years now, especially ABC radio. Now, obviously, the smut is spreading to TV. I have been advocating a boycott of ABC for years for the reasons you mention. Few others really paid attention until now, to how bad they are. I rarely watch any show on ABC except Oprah on TiVO. NBC I no longer watch either. Heck, since the coup, I rarely watch any TV but when I do, it's not ABC or NBC.

If you want the guys to give up MNF on ESPN, it's time to give up Oprah. Let Oprah know why you aren't watching. She is the Queen of all media after all. As the Oprah audience goes.....so goes America.

Oprah goes to whatever local affiliate can afford her...in most markets it ends up being ABC though. She cost our station so much this year we couldn't afford Dr. Phil anymore, which is our second highest rated syndicated show. We got outbid and picked up Rachel Ray's show instead.

29. Throwing some support your way
Goes to show there are plenty people who won't do just anything for money; who won't do just anything to keep their job.
(though i gather that in many cases folks just don't have many options, can't afford the 'luxery' of standing up for their principals).
