Disney Doomed!
What now remains is for us to keep our money from Disney, and let know those that promote Disney a boycott is in place...that we are families, friends, and lovers, and that we no longer need Disney as to help us explain what we think of 911. Give up the usual thinking of Disney as a good old American family vacationing place, and see them as who they are...an investor of a right-wing corporation without regard to truth and honesty.

9. I disagree: they were in trouble BEFORE all of this crap.
The economy is going south, and when that happens people have less discretionary income to spend. What gets cut in that case? Entertainment. Vacations.

I believe that Disney can't afford anything that will cause a further drop in income. Shareholders are not going to be kind. I'm would not go so far as to say they are doomed, but this is going to hurt them in a major way for a long, long time.

27. Yes they were, Finnfan...
Edited on Fri Sep-08-06 08:55 PM by bliss_eternal
they very much were in trouble.

1. Roy Disney gave up his seat to speak out against Eisner and what he had done (in his opinion) that had undermined the Disney legacy and take the company to financial trouble.

2. Eisner poured money into the Walt Disney World resort to make it a great destination resort, while the southern California parks were neglected.

3. They opened (according to Roy) an incomplete park, Disney's California Adventure--which cost them more than they were able to recoup.

4. Another reason they weren't on stable ground was 9/11--people didn't want to fly or travel. The southern California park REALLY suffered here. Most of their guests were locals with annual passes. They had little to offer out of towners with many ride closures during peak periods and few new ride and attractions to offer. While across town, Universal studios seemed to open new rides and attractions frequently. WDW suffered from 9/11 but more so from Katrina--they've dropped their prices for travel pkgs--DESPERATE for guests.

5. Disney did not expect the original Pirates film to be as big as it was. It was a surprise hit. They immediately rushed to place ALL of their eggs in the basket of the Pirates of the Carribbean franchise. Not smart, imo.

6. Speaking of Pirates--the southern California resort has got into a habit that turned off many out of town guests. They rope off an entire area of the resort for almost a week (during peak season) and shut down the park early to accomodate a red carpet, celebrity and industry screening of the film prior to it's release to the public. The public is not invited to the event, yet it's held at the park. Travel agents for the resort are advised NOT TO TELL POTENTIAL guests about the event, because they don't want to lose summer revenue. No big deal to some summer guests--others are put off by having to avoid the area of the park with the best rides for an industry event, and having less time in the park based on it. People that have saved all year to go to Disney only to be told, "...sorry, you can't ride Pirates today. Only for VIP's attending the event that YOU aren't invited to." Yes, that's GREAT pr.

7. They aren't great to their employees and just narrowly avoided a labor strike.

In years past their employees meant a great deal to them. Their guests were everything as well. When you start having private events during public hours at the park and the message is basically, "Fuck the guests for today." That doesn't go over well. Add this to what they jus did... not good news for Disney.

They've got to realize, liberals and fans of truth have money too!

If you are a fan of Disney as I was, you know about the company and their ups and downs. With that knowledge, I realize just how easy it will be to take them down. They will FEEL our boycott and they will be sorry. They can release Bambi 10 through 20 on video and it won't make up for what they could potentially lose.

34. funny, their stock price was near to its 12 month high
and with another Pirates movie due for release next May, the current Pirates movie probably coming out on DVD at Christmas, and a new Pixar featue expected in 2007, I don't think they are "in trouble". Also, while the network is lacking in major ratings hits, it is hanging onto second place in the ratings. And ESPN has had a good year, not just in the US, but outside the US (because of the world cup).

Any small way we can help stem this horrid wave of fascism is what we MUST DO. :hi:

11. That reminds me of a hilarious George Carlin stand up skit ...
"Mickey Mouse just celebrated his birthday and it's announced like it's a Major Event. I don't give a sh*t! If I did I'd have known this and send him a card, but I didn't. Why? I don't give a sh*t."

George Carlin goes on: "I hate Mickey Mouse! I hope he dies in a inner city neighborhood alley with his hand down Goofey's pants." :P ;)

If I missed something - my apologies to George Carlin. However, I agree 100%. :hi:

29. No Euro Disney handed it's European operations off to a French company
Edited on Fri Sep-08-06 09:15 PM by gbrooks
Companyafter their launch efforts failed. Most of the Euro revenue by the Euro subsidiary
is attributed to hotel destination and theme park revenue the latter due to new high
tech thrill rides. In other words rides and hotel packages sell. Mickey Mouse is a not go.

(Marne-la-Vallée, July 26, 2006) Euro Disney S.C.A. (the “Company”), parent company of Euro Disney
Associés S.C.A., operator of Disneyland Resort Paris, announced today that total revenues for its
consolidated group (the “Group”) grew 13% to € 286.6 million over the prior-year quarter, reflecting 15%

growth in Resort Segment revenues due to theme park revenue growth of 18% and revenue growth of 14%
for the Hotels and Disney Village. Revenues from the Real Estate Segment decreased € 3.7 million versus
the prior-year quarter. Revenues for the nine months ended June 30, 2006 increased 4% to € 754.0 million.

22. there are very few fundies....there are vast numbers of decent people
dizney has tagged itself as a nazipooh corporation, like aol or times warner or clearchannel or walmart or halburton etc.....bush is going down, and the pigs co's such as dizney etc will go down with him...that's partly why the makes-no-sense solid support for such a destructive administration is seen, and marvelled at by so many (bush's failure will expose virtually a 1/2 century of deceit used to confuse the people while wasting the national wealth on tooling up for wars against prefab enemies etc)
i doubt the men running the country care about profits that much. THeir concern is how are they to keep hidden the 800 pound gorilla dancing around everyone's living room (the fact the rightwing solution is killing the golden goose, and stopping its killing might very well let the cat outta the bag, ie that bush aint god, and we won't die iffen we don't worship his stinking arse)....it's a trap the jokers can't get out of, and they will doom the entire planet trying to save themselves, unless we kick their asses into gitmo...

36. that's why we've been killing the fundies at the polls
Edited on Sat Sep-09-06 12:36 AM by onenote
:sarcasm:

Two things we tend to do around here: underestimate the opposition and overestimate the number of hidden progressives. We do ourselves a lot of harm by not looking at reality.

And yes there are millions of decent people. Indeed tens of millions. And a great many of them grew up loving Disney products and want to share that with their kids by going to Disneyland or Disney World and by buying Disney movies, etc. And even if millions of those people agree with us about the P2911 (and a lot of them probably aren't paying the slightest bit of attention to this because their busy trying to get into the swing of a new school year schedule for their kids, etc.), they aren't going to change their plans. When I read the calls for a boycott I just roll my eyes, given how many people making these calls or agreeing with them already say they don't buy Disney products, meaning that their "boycott" isn't going to change a damn thing.

anything that focuses att'n on the bastards is another ctraw/camel's back.....the p2911 horrorshow says dizney is actively working to undermine truth, legality and decency etc (which, btw, are the hallmarks the company was built upon)
it's very important to keep it simple: dizney=bush mihop 911/666

For the rest of you, this 9/11 movie may be the turning point. But I still want my goddamned three dollars back from "Lion King 2 and a 1/2." How do you bore a six year old into unconsciousness? Show him that movie.

The boycott is ON, baby.

Except for "Lost." I rent the DVDs from the library. Is "Lost" ABC? Do the library check-outs count as breaking the boycott?
