Nancy Reagan requests that Webb stop using Reagan video footage
Stung by Webb ties to Gipper, Allen rallies Reagan's lieutenants

RICHMOND, Va. Nancy Reagan has ordered Democratic Senate candidate Jim Webb -- a former Reagan White House military aide -- NOT to use video of her husband praising Webb in an upcoming campaign ad.
A three-paragraph letter from the former first lady's office says the use of footage of President Reagan is ... quote ... "neither authorized nor appropriate."

An ad Webb intends to begin televising Monday features Reagan praising Webb -- then an assistant secretary of defense -- during the 1985 U-S Naval Academy commencement ceremony.

On the video Reagan says ... quote ... "James' gallantry as a Marine in Vietnam won him the Navy Cross and other decorations."

Does Nancy own each and every image of her husband? Ronald Reagan was a public figure and his speeches are in the public domain. This footage is in no way disrespectful of Reagan, and appropriate if Webb is looking for Reagan Democrats' votes.

You want to censor the truth? Don't want felix to be compared anymore unfavorably to Webb then he already is? Wow, you must be really ashamed of ronny.

God it must suck being a republican.

The old bastard was a public figure & probably has no rights in the matter, however this would really hurt allen, so this.

9. Tough nuts toots...
James Webb himself appears in the video, why would Nancy have to authorize it?

Remember when Ronnie used Bruce Springsteen's Born in the USA song on the campaign trail? Bruce told him to cease and desist.

Suck on it Mommy, your chickens have come home to roost.

13. Well that settles it. If Ed Messe speaks we should listen
Former Attorney General Edwin Meese was a Reagan adviser. He calls the ad ... quote ... "improper, unethical and very possibly illegal."

Not!!!!

22. And of course, Webb will likely cave. Sigh.
I'm STILl pissed that Kerry didn't use the McCain footage of the debate with Bush. That would have been a great commercial on TV.

25. She has every right to request this
and he has every right to run it anyway.

She is obviously being partisan in asking him not to use it, so I don't think he should be bound by trying to appease her.
