Berger, Albright and Clinton send additional letters demanding 9/11 show be canceled
by John in DC - 9/08/2006 05:27:00 PM

According to CNN, former Clinton National Security Adviser Sandy Berger and former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright have written to former Republican co-chair of the 9/11 Commission, and Disney/ABC paid/unpaid consultant to the film, asking Kean to use his influence to cancel the show. President Clinton has sent another letter through his attorney asking Disney/ABC to cancel the show, and has suggested that Kean is endangering the bipartisan work of the September 11 Commission through his partisan actions in this film.

Kean's response to CNN?

"What possible political motivation could I have?"

YOUR SON IS RUNNING FOR THE US SENATE AS A REPUBLICAN FROM NEW JERSEY, RIGHT NEXT TO GROUND ZERO, YOU LIAR. And he's doing it at a time when the Republicans have decided to run on the war on terror and 9/11. Do you think a film blaming Democrats for all of that might help your son's race?

Nice of CNN not to mention that fact.

6. Kean has really stepped in it this time
I knew him slightly many years ago when he was a NJ highway commissioner and I was a newspaper reporter. He seemed stuffy but pleasant enough at the time.

But this involvement in a rotten propaganda film aimed at distorting the public's view of 9/11 stinks to high heaven and beyond.

If Kean and his imbecile son had an iota of sense, they would back off and repudiate this garbage.

of NJ in the 80s in a preview of subsequent scuzzy Republican tactics nationwide. In his NJ election "victory", the "National Republican Ballot Secrity Task Force" hired off-duty white cops to stand in front of polling places in predominantly Black precincts in Newark and elsewhere. Prominently displaying official-looking armbands and holstered pistols, they stood near illegal vote-suppression posters to the effect that, "Election fraud is a CRIME!" When the results were tallied, it was Kean in one of the closest votes in state history. See http://www.democrats.com/node/59

20. Interesting. Didn't know this.
I wasn't impressed either by his "Don't judge the show now. Wait until you've seen it to judge it." That sounded a lot like, "Don't worry about voter rights now. Wait until the election is over, and then see how it goes." Now I understand why.

Thanks for the info! :toast:

14. Let's get Menendez to sue! (Kean libels Clinton to help Kean Jr. win)

The case goes like this:

Clinton is fundraising for Bob Menendez. (e.g., event last night).

Clinton's reputation and support has tangible value that affects the race.

For personal gain (to help Tom Kean Jr. unseat Bob Menendez) Thomas H. Kean approves libelous portrayal of President Clinton to damage Clinton, and thereby damage Menendez by reducing the value of Clinton's support.

Could be fun!

8. Ha! How will NJ voters view this knowing his son is running for Senate?
Tom Kean is such a toad. I lived in NJ under his regime and he's as "outta touch" as Bush Bot. But then, he really was and IS a Bush bot. :puke:

Let's hope NJersians don't get suckered by Kean's clone son.

13. I bet a lot of voters there still think they're voting for Kean Sr.
for Senate. Also, combined with Menendez's problems, this makes NJ our most endangered Senate seat.

16. Coulldn't buy the kid a seat in Congress. . .
Edited on Fri Sep-08-06 06:08 PM by pat_k
. . .so he aims to buy him one in the Senate.

The hubris of the entitled.

Guess Dad figured this was a great opportunity to go that extra mile and help out by using 9/11 to smear Dems.

Whatever the motive, what makes Kean's role in this so truly despicable is that so many here in the 7th district lost friends, acquaintances, and family that day.

Over 650 of those killed were from NJ. Seemly countless people in Westfield lost co-workers in the towers. (Like other NJ towns on on NYC train line, financial types from Cantor Fitzgerald, Marsh & McLennan, Cantor Fitzgerald, Bloomberg, etc., are over-represented. Twelve who lived here, or who had immediate family here, died -- See photo caption at http://www.goleader.com/05sep15/

17. Didn't he run for Congress back in 2000?
I read that it was for Bob Franks' seat (Franks ran against Corzine for this same Senate seat and almost beat him.)

21. Yes. He ran back from Massachusetts when Franks went for Governors office.
. . .and couldn't even win the district.

To my shame, I live in a district represented by Ferguson, who took illegal dough from his parents. Paid the biggest fine in FEC history to buy his seat.

15. That would be hard to prove, unfortunately
Edited on Fri Sep-08-06 05:20 PM by Ignacio Upton
But I think Clinton (and Albright, Berger and other administration officials slandered) would have a good case for a libel suit against ABC and Cyrus Nowrasteh.

What Menendez should do is run an ad talking about Kean Sr.'s shilling for ABC on this, even though the movie contradicts his OWN commission! That way, he can let voters know the truth about not only Jr., but Sr. as well.
