The Path to 9/11 Writer Speaks Out

By Sher Zieve – Appearing on Friday’s Sean Hannity show the writer and one of the producers of The Path to 9/11, Cyrus Nowrasteh, spoke out on the controversy surrounding the docudrama. On Thursday, Democrat Senators threatened to yank the ABC network’s broadcast license if it aired the miniseries said not to be completely favorable toward former President Clinton.

When asked if the rumors of ABC pulling the show due to pressure from former President Clinton and the Democrat leadership are true, Nowrasteh said: “As I understand it, we’re airing Sunday and Monday night.” When Hannity asked him whether or not Clinton and the Democrats had influenced ABC to heavily edit the docudrama, Nowrasteh responded: “I can’t deny those reports.”

Nowrasteh also said: "I think it’s unfortunate that this has happened. I’d like the people to see it uncut. This is not great for the creative process.” He added: “The heartbeat of the film is still there. They can’t gut it. The villains in this movie are the terrorists.”

I don't have names but if it is true then with those threats and actions being taken against ABC and it's affiliates, we are walking on a very slippery slope ladies and gents. We have seen what Bush has done with the wire taps, I don't want to see what he will do to those who speak out against his policies or anything else. I say let those who would watch it watch it and those of us more informed boycott.

There is no slippery slope here. If this was just about airing Clinton's mistakes and ignoring bush's* I'd say lets boycott and leave it at that. What's happening here, however, is that ABC is not just glossing over bush's* "mistakes", they are fabricating (yes, that means lying) them for Clinton and his administration. The fact that, having been made aware of these "errors", they are still proceeding to run it breaks the trust of the American people by feeding them knowingly false information.

If I were to create a film that depicts you as single handedly causing the deaths of 3000 people when the record proves you didn't wouldn't you use every means possible to keep it off the airwaves? Barring that, wouldn't you do everything in your power to make sure that lies of that nature were never allowed to run again? I know I would.

shows what kind of people are in charge of making decisions over there.

If there was anyone behind this who actually believed in the film for its own sake, they would just say fuck you, we're showing it. They're editing it because they're now afraid that they might lose more by airing it as it was made than by trying to placate the people who are pissed off at them. Which tells you a) the political winds are shifting and b) the people at ABC don't really give a shit about anything but sailing with the prevailing political wind. Either way, if they are editing the thing, that shows that they recognize it for what it is: a political document that can lay no claim to being the result of any kind of real "creative process."
