email to scholastic
After reading several responses to the movie "the Path to 9/11' by former Clinton staff members, as well as President Clinton's response today, I am convinced that this information is a fictional account of a factual event that is politically motivated and should not be supported by an educational business like yours. I am a teacher in ...... and head of book and support material ordering - I vow to hold back ANY orders to scholastic, as well as use my power as English adviser and English Dept Head to use alternate publishers at all times. Please pull your support of this politically motivated movie.

1. Scholastic has already pulled this crap
It will not repeat any inaccuracies and is removing any link to the movie.

2. Thank you
Thank your for taking the time to voice your objections directly to Scholastic. You should check out this thread because Scholastic has changed the materials.

3. Glad you sent the letter.
All Scholastic has done is change the questions for the discussion materials. They are still promoting this movie by providing the materials to teachers and thus encouraging them to have students see the movie as a class assignment.

4. Yes, but they admit the movie has inaccuracies and promote
discussions about the inaccuracies and the facts. I think this is a good approach. Teach the kids not to accept the pablum of the MSM and to search for the truth. Personally, I applaud their new approach.

5. I'm not an advocate of Scholastic Sponsored Scatology.
I do not approve and I will not condone any use of misleading propaganda in the classroom.

It's just another example of dark sarcasm in the classroom. -- Pink Floyd.

6. Very good - here's mine
from yesterday. It was my second one, after Scholastic said they were changing the "study guide."

I appreciate the changes you have made to the Scholastic study guide for the “Path to 911,” although I am still greatly concerned that this show may be required viewing for students. Six hours or UN-documented viewing is not my idea of education. I feel, and may/will probably never know, that your company has been somehow tied to some type of legal contract regarding this production. Perhaps a law suit might follow should you drop this film from Scholastic’s recommendations. Here’s something you might add to better provide critical thinking for the discussion.

Ted Koppel begins his groundbreaking Discovery Channel series with a three-hour primetime special on the eve of the fifth anniversary of Sept. 11. Koppel's world premiere,The Price of Security, uses interviews with current and former administration members and military and security experts to explore the dilemma the government faces in the war on terrorism.

On one hand, the administration has national security as its first obligation and has been criticized for not "connecting the dots." At the same time, the government is being assailed by civil libertarians for undermining the freedoms on which the United States was founded. Koppel will also explore the growth of technology that makes it possible to collect and sort through detailed personal data. Commercial interests now track buying and travel habits, personal tastes and reading habits through credit card data and Internet usage. The broadcast examines the debate over whether there should be limits on how that information can be used by law enforcement to preempt terrorist attacks.

Following the broadcast of KOPPEL ON DISCOVERY: The Price of Security, Koppel will host a live town meeting at the National War College with 9/11 family members, civil libertarians, administration officials and members of Congress. The town meeting will involve not only people in the audience, but also people at home. Viewers will be given the opportunity to have their own questions answered by the panel at discoverychannel.com.
