The ABC movie again(critical thinking skills)
Yesterday I posted about this topic as well. Loved the responses by the way(and not only because it was an actual post of mine that got more than 5 replies).

Say the movie was shown to children. They watch it, they get whatever out of it. They come to you, or you ask them how their day at school went, and they say they watched a movie about this and that, etc, etc.

If you were to tell them that the movie was incorrect(or whatever you wish to call it in front of your child), and then get them to do their own research about it, couldn't that be a good thing?

Wouldn't you want your child to learn what propaganda is? That way, in the future, they would know what to look for. Instead of hiding the propaganda because you're terrified that your child will be brainwashed into thinking Clinton was a monster, why couldn't it be a perfect time to help develop those critical thinking skills we all go on and on so much about?

It would be better than just simply reading a book like 1984. They could actually see the propaganda. Learn how to look things up.

Granted, I have no children. So maybe protecting them from it is best. That's why I'm asking the question.

1. By all means let you kids watch it. Then have to explain
that our government is so corrupt and stupid they not only knew in advance that there were plans to use aircraft to run into a major American landmark but that they did nothing about it. And they explain that our goverment is so corrupt that they've lied about every single issue dealing with the attack since then. And then explain to them that our government is so corrupt that they make a propaganda movie that lies about what happened during a previous president's administration and during the attack on the WTC so that they can deceptively influence another election AGAIN.

And then tell them that this is the greatest country on earth and we have the best government in the world and to feel fortunate that they live in such a wonderful country.

2. I think children are

better informed than most - my problem with airing the 9/11 movie is that it will give more ammo to the right wing nut jobs that already use skewed information to make their point - that plus the fact that it smacks too much of what Goebbels did:
"The Goebbels technique, also known as argumentum ad nauseam, is the name given to a policy of repeating a point until it is taken to be the truth. Goebbels also pioneered the use of broadcasting in mass propaganda, promoting the distribution of inexpensive single frequency radio receivers (the so-called Volksempfänger (People's radio) to the German public which ensured that millions of people heard the output of the Reich's propaganda ministry while being unable to receive news and other broadcasts from outside Germany."

and it's on Public TV - not cable, nor in a paid for movie....it just all around stinks to high heaven.

3. Well, won't it matter who they ask?
I mean the reality is there really isn't much critical thinking going on in a person who is "affiliated" ... be it religion or politics... It's been proven scientifically...

It's more about how does "this" benefit or hurt me and my cause than it is about ethics.

4. Well you can't control everyone
Everything depends on who you ask, or even when you ask. Ask a question in 973 AD, you'll get a different answer than if you asked it in 639 BC. Ask a female queen a question, and you'll probably get your head chopped off. Ask a female peasant, and you would get a different response.

Again, I don't have a kid. So maybe if I did, and the circumstances were different, I'd tell myself to get the hell out of here, what was I thinking.

I just think it might be a good opportunity to let them see propaganda in action. As we move further along in the information age, this is what we'll get. Information will be paramount. Always has been, but especially now, as the world blurs, and lines become non-existent.

5. I think you are right. And you don't have to have children
to see the obvious. I don't have them either. But I was a child once and I do remember personally, and have observed in others, that if I was taught something was true, then found out it wasn't, I learned a bigger lesson from that than the learning of the merely untrue "facts." Which was a lesson about thinking.

This is why teenagers are the way they are. When we get there, we are smart enough to see where we were sold a bill of goods, and go so far often we even overcompensate. The "rebellion" of teens is a good thing. That shows they are learning the concept of thinking for themselves.

Just that ABC would do this and try this and treat the nation like children should be enough to get the average teenager to have contempt for ABC.
