1. They got hit with Hurricane Luis in 1996 - not sure how strong it
was when it reached them, but it was a 4 I think in the Caribbean. They were quite surprised by that one.

2. Canadian Hurricane Centre hasn't issued any bulletins yet ...

With luck the storm will weaken as it passes into the higher latitudes (technically it will be an "extra-tropical" storm once it moves that far north), though it could still do some damage like Hurricane Juan did to Halifax. Newfoundland and Nova Scotia actually have more experience than the rest of Canada with these things (2 or 3 per decade), plus more than their fair share of blizzards and foul weather. The parts of "The Rock" which see the most hurricane activity tend to be sparsely populated without a lot of infrastructure, which makes for less costly impacts. Though the fishing boats had better be heading for safe areas!

6. If it was named after a guy, I know it
would shrink when it hit that cold water.

7. Will Florence get recycled as it follows the gulf stream?
The 8 AM Friday shows it will be heading east right at Spain/Portugal. Sooner or later it will hit the southern flow, sending it right back down to the African coast.

8. I was just thinking that this will end up
in Europe but if it survives it may go all the way to Africa.

9. The cooler water should defuse it by the time it gets to Europe.
